They are almost invisible on the road, though.

I generally don't ride on the road, only dedicated bike paths. I also have a large American flag pennant about six feet off the ground.

A young girl that worked for me used to miss a lot of time. She would call in and say she was home in bed with Arthtitis. Well I knew those Rthtitis boys and Art was the worse one of the bunch.

Since a trike takes even more energy to pedal than a conventional bike, I guess you will have to forget about doing any exercise at all and resign yourself to becoming weaker and weaker and less and less healthy.

I have one of these that I added a smaller front sprocket, a 3 speed gearbox and a front basket that I use to go places that you can't drive for wildlife photography. Rode it 8 miles on dirt roads the first time out without a problem and I have arthritis really bad in my knees not to mention I'm fat as hell too. It's comfortable and great exercise.

There are two kinds of trikes. Your picture shows what's called a Delta trike, but it is not a recumbent. It's pretty remarkable that you rode this machine 8 miles. I assume they were level and not rolling miles. Most people ride a Tadpole trike which has two wheels in the front and one in the back.

Here I am on my tadpole trike. (Catrike Villager, aluminum frame, disk brakes, 27 speed.)

Didn't know mine was called a Delta, I just call it a trike but I did know it was not a recumbent. I tried the recumbent and didn't like the laying down position and it's also harder for me to get on my feet from the recumbent. On mine all I have to do is step off and I'm already standing and I can also see better from the higher sitting position.
That 8 miles was all on gravel roads with no hills to speak of and it was over about a 4 to 5 hour period because I have it geared low for slow speed and easy peddling. I also stop often to take pictures. I'm retired so no need for speed and you see more wildlife when going slow.
