Have you had any compatibility issues or error code messages when using this lens (Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4) with a Canon crop sensor?
I would be using on my Canon 80D.
Thanks again...
I would be using this lens (Sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4) on my Canon 80D. Should I be concerned with compatibility issues - error code messages, etc?

You should not be concerned - but to tell you the truth, I have only used the Sigma 17-70 on the 50D, 60D, and XT Rebel - have NOT used it on my 80D YET. Mine is the older non-contemporary version that does not take the hub.
Dale and Peter, The 80D is absolutely worth the upgraded glass and it is a wonderful upgrade to any of the Rebel cameras. You will love it!
Registered mainly to post a word of caution. Older now and having made many poor choices I realize that waiting, saving, selling items to save more money, is worth it when you get that really expensive lens and realize how much better it is.
The 15-35 f4 L lens I wanted for so long is sooo worth the difference - now to sell the other less expensive brands. Think of the up-grade as "forever". Good luck.
I purchased a Canon 28/135 lens in 2003 to use on my Canon Elon 7N film camera. It performed great so when I purchased my EOS 40D the lens was used with it. Always did a great job.
In 2015 I replaced the 40D with a 70D,used the 28/135 on it as well.
In 2016 I got the urge to replace the 28/135 because of a little lens creep. Went with the Tamron 16/300 as per recommendation from salesman at camera store.
I wish I had tried the 18/135 first. I just trust the Canon name.
BTW I gave the 40D and the 28/135 to my daughter. Now she wants the 70D. I can't win.
I know you said $599 or less but you should really consider the new Tamron 18-400mm for only $50 more and it would cover just about anything you want to shoot and the quality is pretty darn good plus it has a 6 year guarantee. Just a thought.
Thank you, I'll look into the Tamron 18-400.
Have you used this on a Canon 80D?
I have parking lot used it on a 60D and 7dII. Seems like a great lens of the long zoom range, 22.2. I like shorter range glass. I would chose 15-85 EFs if it was my choice.

There is a trade off here. If you want a single walk around lens, then these extreme zooms are very convenient. If you want better optical quality then shorter zoom ranges make fewer compromises. Do you want quality or convenience?
I'm looking for quality with a little convenience. For now, forget about price range for speaking purposes, and roughly focus on the 18-55mm range.

Yes, that's what I am using it with and it really works good. You can see a sample of some shots I took here.
