My Nikon D750 erased my photos!

Help.. is it possible that the camera "self-deletes" photos on the memory card? I was the only one handling my camera unless someone did without me looking, and over 50 photos were deleted. This is a 32 GB Lexar memory card, I tried to download to Lightroom and it kept saying no photos, I took it out and put it in camera again, sure enough.. no photos! I usually carry my camera in a sling bag and it has a body-contoured protective cover over it. The bag is small and I jam it with a couple of lenses but I always turn it off and check regularly to make sure everything is cool, of course, until today.
I will from now on.. use "two cards".

Eric, if you have not over written on that card, I believe your card company can
retrive them for you.Contact them if the images are important to you. No it never happened to me.

You can save the images yourself with Image Rescue. It works great. Never leave home without it!

Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that some of the controls on a camera can be changed accidentally. While I do not know what would cause erasing images from your card, I have experienced the problem of altered settings. It can happen when you inadvertently press a button or turn one of the command dials. Or it gets bumped when the camera is being put in the bag or taken out. The dividers in my camera bag are placed so the camera fits snugly [will not shift] and is protected, but it can still happen, especially when in a hurry!

The camera does not do anything by itself. The photographer decides what he/she wants the camera to do. I am sure you will not like this answer.

Deleting and formatting requires a two button press procedure. Highly unlikely that it could happen by random button contact in you bag. Did you see any photos using image review while you were taking photos? Did you format the card in camera prior to using it or on your computer?

Yes, I format the card after transfer of photos but obviously, not this time since none were found. This is not the first time I use this particular card. This is really sad, the photos are important but not enough for me to lose sleep. I learned a lesson which is using two cards since they are available on my D750. Thank you for the help.

Does your camera have dual card slots? I once accidentally set my camera to the wrong card slot. Later found my photos on the 2nd card.

It has dual cards and I am now using those now. I hadn't been. I will try the rescue app. Thank you for your help.

I'm tempted to put this in the category of "the one that got away." However, I have lost two whole shoots because of sdcard failures, so I know it can happen. That's another reason I ALWAYS format my cards when I put them in the camera.
