I thought I had posted this photo; but I don't see it in "my topics". Must have forgotten to hit "send". Anyway, for me this is a nice sunrise that would not be worth posting if it were not for the boat. I think a sunset, sunrise photo needs some other element to give it interest. In this case the boat leaving the inlet on its way to the fishing grounds seems to give the photo an element of story that would otherwise be missing. This is not a composite, I just got lucky to have the sun peek over the horizon as that boat was going out. Shot with Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 lens. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

I like the diagonals ...... almost a mark of Zorro in the Zees of the cloudbank and the wake of the boat. I might have dropped the contrast a bit so there would be more detail in the clouds, and used the blue saturation slider to desaturate just a touch and make it brighter.

I think it could stand to be a bit brighter. This is another case of UHH being darker than my monitor. But your comment is still of merit and I'll definitely consider it. Thank you.

This is a very subtle change. I agree about images appearing darker on the UHH servers than they do in PS back home. I used Topaz Adjust to spread the colors a bit, lowered the contrast slider to lighten up the skies, used the Blue Hue/Saturation slider to desaturate the blue (in the water), then lightened that color, and used On1 Effects Adjustment Brush (Detail) for a few brushes over the boat. It was only after making the adjustments that I noticed there were hills out on the horizon (or very dark cloud banks).

I like what you have done. Interesting how tiny changes can make a big difference. The hills must be clouds since we are looking out into the Atlantic. I wish there were just a tad more detail in the boat itself. I think I ran out of dynamic range. lol.

Could you mask the fishing boat and bring up a bit of detail in that Erich? I like boats and my eye just keeps looking for detail there.

Nice as is, however I agree with the other suggestions.
Agree 100% the boat mage the image!!!!!!!
Our man in Spain may have a point Erich, whilst I like 'dark', a tiny bit more detail in the boat would help I think. Otherwise I just wish I'd taken it!

Sorry, slow response made me hit the button again!
I think you are right about the boat being needed in this shot. Otherwise it is just the sun popping up over some water. Very nice colors and composition. As has previously been mentioned a little lightening of the boat would make it a little more prominent.

I think that is one of the major issues with this photo. There just is not much detail there.

I wish there were more detail in the boat; but at least it is there. Without the boat, as you mentioned, no much of a photo.

Good point. Not a total loss without the detail; but it would have been nice.

I'm going to re-visit that boat. It might be possible to brighten it a bit without making it too obvious that there was manipulation. Might be possible.

Is the original RAW or jpeg?
