This will be how I shoot the Eclipse. I posted a shot earlier using this same set up. As soon as the sun comes back out I will shoot some more.
It may look funky as hell but it works.
I was a Union Pipefitter, welder. I watched every eclipse so far. Well maybe not every one, but all of them I have been around for, using a welding lens.
Probably much to the dismay, of all you gotta have a solar filter crowd, I can still see.
For the low, low price of $42,615,385.00, this could be yours. I am willing to pay postage.
I'll bet the government will buy it.

Us Kiwi's Have the "Number 8 wire" mentality of using what is available to do whatever needs doing. Brought about by us being so far away from the rest of the world I believe so "good on yer Mate"as we say.I was a pipefitter welder at one stage of my Plumbing and Gasfitting life.
Hey, if it works! Just don't forget to take the rig off during totality (if you're in the totality zone) and shoot the corona with the lens buck nekked.
I am in Colorado. So it will be a partial. I could go up to Laramie, Wyo. but, years ago I got tossed into a Rock Springs jail, overnight. I haven't had much use for Wyoming ever since. And for the record, I was Innocent. Honest.
I look forward to your pictures!

In 1973 I was in the Navy stationed on an old WW11 submarine out of Connecticut. I took 30 days leave in
July and road my motorcycle out to California. Well one night I was just west of Rock springs in a little town
I think called Everston. It was late and I stopped at a small diner for coffee (I was cold). I told a cop where I came from and where I was going and was there any where I could throw my sleeping bag for the night. He said there was a park down the road but it was full of hippies. He said the jail was emptily and I could sleep in the jail. Great cop. Slept great that night I bought him breakfast in the morning, said good by and made it to Sacramento that night. Wyoming isn't all that bad.

Interesting, do you remove the protective paper...?
Ron.
I grew up on a ranch 5 miles north of Evanston, Wy and we too didn't like Rock Springs.
That gold color, is the lens. No paper was harmed while taking this picture.
Just be very sure the seal between the front glass & your lens is completely light tight.
I like your lens. I have this old lens as well. Old and clunky but sharp as hell.
I am a retired pipefitter, way back in the mid 1980's, there was a big fertilizer plant being built in Rock Springs. I was there, from Sept to Dec. I stayed at sleazey, but not cheap hotel called the 4J.
I remember the wind and the cold. My drivers license had expired. At Christmas time, I was
going to go back home a take care of that. Before I had a chance to do that, late one Saturday night, a pregnant lady ran a red light and bashed in the side of my car. I had no valid license, so off to jail I went. Good times.
I was also there when the powerhouse was being built and Shorty's BBQ and the Astro were running hookers.I almost forgot about Dotties, I never went to any them, but everyone knew about those places. A guy I knew was a high stakes gambler, he was shot and killed there. He always had a wad of cash, that was gone when they found him. They never found out who killed him. I was there when that informer got shot in the back of the police car. If I remember right , the mayors office burned down after that. It was about then that I said, this is way too crazy and left. It was the wild, wild west back then
