I like to burn DVDs of our travel photos and include a few movie clips from time to time. I'm currently using Pro Show Gold and have used Adobe Premier Elements in the past. Neither one has proven satisfactory in handling both photos and video. I've spent a lot of time online trying to find a program that works for both with no success. Does anyone have a program that works well using the MOV format for movies created with Canon 5D II? The problem I'm experiencing is in loading the movies into the program -- will load one or two and then freeze. Also simply doesn't play some of the clips even though the program allowed them to load. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't do video but power2go does a great job for me. I think you might have to do the photos and videos separately dont know for sure but you could get them both on the same DVD. believe the basic program is a free download.

I don't know about anyone else but I use Pinnacle 15 H.D, not only will it do what you are asking, but it will also allow you to grab frames from you video clips, good piece of kit, but a bit expensive, but it you plan on doing a lot of video editing this is my recomendation.

I use video often and add photos.
Check the trial version of:
Cyberlink Power Director Pro.

Personally...I love it :-)

Have you saved the pro show gold to the hard drive and try burning it with burner software to see if the problem is Pro Show or maybe the burning software?

To properly diagnose this problem, you need to elaborate on your system. You might be running out of RAM or having a memory conflict. Need more info to properly determine the problem. Could you please tell your machine's attributes like CPU, GPU, RAM amount, designated temp file storage size and so on as well as if you are using a hard disc temp file for storage or just the available RAM. Could be that your temp file size is designated too small and it runs out of space after 2 MOV files are loaded. Just a thought. Does this happen no matter how large your MOV files are?

I just finished a video project where I shot almost 4 hours of video with the 5Dmk2 and edited it down to a 48 minute DVD. Used Final Cut Pro from apple(free 30day trial) I have a new found respect for anyone who does this on a regular basis. The program worked great but trying to edit video and sound is too much for me. It was a country music award presentation and my first time using the camera to video. The mic on it is fantastic picks everything including All background noise. In a auditorium with about 300 fiddlers, steel guitar players, guitar players, drummers & singers it was extremely difficult to video the group on stage with out picking up everything else.

Check the minimum requirements for the software. Also have nothing else running like screensaver or anything else in the background.

Editing takes a lot of time. Maybe start with a smaller project first?
One hour video in HD will take about 2-3 hours of rendering I guess.
So do not use the computer during that time unless you have a high end machine.
I render my video before bedtime and select shutdown when finished.
The next day I take that rendered file and burn it to DVD with a 3rd party burner.

Good luck.

Have you gone to the manufacturers website and looked for patches to the software yet?

You have the right concept but your minimum memory requirement needs to be thought through. It's always a good idea for both speed and reduction of lockups, to try and have more than the minimum amount of RAM. Most older motherboards will handle up to 4 Gig of Ram and some of the newer ones will go all the way to 64 Gig. The more you have, the faster your machine runs and reduces memory interupts and machine hangups. Even just running Windows is improved drastically by loading up your board with memory modules. And consider the processor and video AGP card as well and the internal bus type and bridge controller chip set.

I have been doing home video editing for a couple years using several different softwares. CyberLink is mid priced and offers a lot. $100

Video editing is PC intensive. more than gaming. Hardware upgrade will be your cost to worry about. CPU, RAM, PS, 64bit OS, HD, 2gig ram OB video card.

Software learning curve goes up the more editing decisions you have. Same as Photo.

As I mentioned, personally I have been using Cyberlink Power Director. Another suggestion you may want to look at is NCH software it's called Video Pad.
