This is what a bull elephant looks like when he doesn't want you around...

No argument here! I hope you were practicing "shoot and run". Awesome captures.

Thanks. I was preparing for a quick exit but, fortunately, it wasn't necessary. Another bull joined him from the waterhole and they walked off together into the bush.

The shots are amazing. Mostly because clicking the shutter would have been about the last thing I would have been thinking about in that situation. You are a brave man.

Thanks, Erich. It was a phenomenon not to be missed and I felt there was enough distance to allow me to make a quick exit if necessary. I have posted this elsewhere but this is the guy as he first encountered us...

too cool for words. I don't know the lens you used, but you must have been close enough for him to notice you. At least they don't throw rocks!

True!

We did have a closer encounter with another old boy in Khwai. He visited our camp on two afternoons to eat seed pods. He would headbutt the tree to shake the pods to the ground. It must have been his favourite delicacy and we were camped under his favourite trees...

I think the photos are amazing. We see lots of photos of animals in zoos; but this is completely different. I think you did a fantastic job of capturing the animal in his native environment. I still think you are a very brave man; but I totally understand wanting to get these shots. (I assume you had weighed your options for retreat. Very sensible).

An amazing set of pictures - must have been pretty exciting for you. I love the attitude in the first one of your original set, and the full frontal that you reposted - what great shots, and nicely pp'd as well?

Thanks, both. Yes, Erich, in life and business always try to have an exit strategy!

Great shots. You did have the car in reverse, right?
