my main lens for ultra-wide-angle is a f3.5 8mm, it gives me 180 degree image, I can always crop. a 16-50mm or 16-200mm usually fills the bill.

The NEW Tamron 10-24mm lens is probably the best lens in the superwide category. I compares nicely with the Nikon 16-80mm which is also excellent.

I have the old Tamron 10-24, but I like it's range. I found myself using 24mm quite a bit in landscape photography. Considering the amount I have used it, it also saved me some money over the Nikon 10-24mm. Combined with the Nikon 28-300mm, those were the only two lenses I needed when the only camera I had was the D7000, although I also had the 50mm f1.8 and a 35-80mm kit lens that was great from my D6006 days.

Lots of superb info and advice from UHH members! Those mentioned by you are surely worth investigating. I currently use an 18-70 which came with the camera. It's serves me well for now but as I've shot, I come across a number of instances where wider would have helped.

As usual, you have provided a lot of food for thought!

How often do you shoot wide angle?

An FX 15-30 lens will give exactly the same effect as a DX 15-30 lens on a DX camera.

I know that, the lens he is thinking are wider than 15mm. he's looking to start at 10,11 or 12mm lens not 15. and why would he spend the money for a 15-30mm full frame lens when he could buy a wider lens for a APSC for less than half the price of a full frame for his APSC camera.

It varies quite a bit and depends on the location and subject matter. Some days I don't use it at all, others a lot. I like to have the tools at my disposal when the opportunity presents itself. I often do find I want wider for partocular shots.

The ultra wide though is not my go to lens at all
. I mostly shoot between 35 and 85 at present. I'm looking for a 70 or 80-200 zoom as well.

Thanks, we're in agreement now!

The OP might decide that better pictures are more important than wider focal lengths. Or perhaps not, but now he is aware of the choice.

I've been very happy with my Tamron 10-24 mm 3.5 4.5G. One you might also consider.
