Easy question for all UHH readers
Looking for a small tripod that could fit into a gadget bag or small enough to be manageable for traveling
What are you using
How do you like it( likes - dislikes)
Thanks hogs
I'm using a Gorilla Pod. Very convenient. You can use it as an ordinary tripod or wrap it around poles and rails.
I have two, a table top 5" to 8", and a Precision Design Aluminum 58" tripod! These PD58 I doubt will fit in your bag, won't fit in mine, but has its own carrying bag you can clip onto your main bag or belt!
Have a Gorilla Pod also and a little tabletop one. Some monopods shrink down to very small size, but do not seem too stable to me.
Take a look at the Sirui T-024X Traveler Light Carbon Fiber Tripod with C-10S Ball Head - $199.99 from B&H
Read about the features and the design. Compact, relatively light weight, very sturdy.
Any of the compact Three Legged Things or the Manfrotto BeFree.

How large is your gadget bag, smaller than a bread box or larger than Hulk Hogan.

What camera lens combination?
no good putting a FX Camera and 600mm lens on a small tripod!
A monopod requires you to hold your camera yet reduces 'shake'. So a small one would work just as well - without the fear of the camera falling over.
I have a small tripod that just about holds my cameras using the 18 - 55 and 50mm lens - but it is still 'iffy'. (Not really used at all) Generally I sit the camera on my shoe if requiring a low shot, fence pole or gate post, tree stump, large rock, curb stone or bean bag etc. creativity is the mother of invention.
have fun

There is not much difference between hand holding and using a small manageable tripod that would fit into a gadget bag. Personally I have found that any tripod gets in the way of having fun on travels. Travel right, travel lite.
Depends on how you are traveling. Me by car My regular tripod a by plane the same included in my checked baggage. If I am walking my MindShift PhotoCros 13 carries my Induro CT 204

Thank you all for responses
I do have some really good tripods steady to hold FF with my 500 lens
I'm looking for light stuff so I can carry into A batanical gardens and support my Olympus stuff and at max my D500 with prime lens
Think tank bag holds my 70-210 on end with easily closing the bag so that's what I'm looking for as I my needs are to hold camera & lens for night shots of a fountain displays long exposure 1/2 second or less
I have a little mini tripod from Manfrotto. It's only about 10" tall and if you use the timer function, it is fairly stable.
I seen that RRS have a really nice mini tripod but its a little pricey.
I use a few. Depends on camera/lens and how small it should be.
My smallest is the Pedco UltraPod II. Seven inches long when folded. Cheap. Good for small cameras. Can stick in back pants pocket.
Next is a "ZipShot". Nine inches long when folded. Good only for small cameras. Cheap. Like the GorillaPod, people love it or hate it. When traveling by air, I put three mirrorless cameras, a few lenses, misc. gear, and both the above tripods in a small backpack that fits under an airplane seat.
Next are the travel tripods like MeFoto, Benro, etc. that others are suggesting. These are bigger and higher quality that can handle larger cameras/lenses. There's no best tripod!

Seemingly, when people travel they are spending more money and being exposed to some of their best photo opportunities so why haul around a tripod that may compromise those opportunities. If I am going to travel half way around the world and spend thousands of hard earned dollars packing thousands of dollars of equipment I am packing the best tripod I can afford. I generally take a Really Right Stuff 34L.
