Back in the day, there used to be free websites where you could go and enter a phone number and the site would generally return the name and location information of the phone's subscriber - a reverse phone number lookup. However it appears, to me at least, that free reverse look-ups have gone the way of the Dodo bird. Now I can still enter a phone number in a search bar and a whole flock of "free" sites pop up, but I just can't seem to find any that will actually give you the subscriber data for free. They dance around and tease you a bit, but in the end they either require you to pay or link you to a pay site for the actual information.
Unless someone knows of a site that actually gives you subscriber data for free, I'm kind of accepted that if I want a true reverse phone number lookup I'm going to have to sign on to a site and pay for that information. With that in mind, what sites do my fellow Hoggers recommend that are affordable and accurate?
Are you familiar with spoofing? I had heard about it and finally I am now receiving them. The caller ID shows a local number from my town, but in fact has been hijacked by telemarketers to show it as the originating phone number when it fact it was not. The phone companies are aware of this and it has been on national news.
I used to get such directories when I worked as a P.I. I had to pay for them. Free ones-if you can find them-won't be worth much, and will probably be out of date. What do you want them for?
Just Google the number with spaces.

Yeah really. Sounded like he already figured it out. Guess I'm just another dodo.

Yeah, me too! I jumped to the conclusion that he was tracing some of the solicitation phone calls like I used to do.
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day!
This probably won't help you, but in Canada, we have Canada 411 (computer search). This may be of interest to Canadians reading this thread.
I have received calls IDed as my own name and number. Did not have to look that spoofed number up

LOL, have had that for a couple years now.
Just heard on NPR about 10 minutes ago that the FCC is investigating these procedures. Good luck with that...

Both regular and reverse lookups have gotten almost impossible these days. I have the use the local phone book with its microscopic print. If it's not local, I'm out of luck.
By the way, and excellent call blocker is the CPR 5000. It costs $100, but it works.

We made it easy and if we don't recognize the number we ignore it. Any necessary callers show up on caller id or have our email as well. So far it works well for us.
If the caller does not leave a message we ignore the call.
