For some reason I took the old Canon T3 with me on this afternoons woods walk with the pup. Too hot to take the D7200 and Sigma C. I usually just take a pocket cam but thought I might catch some Osprey young doing wing exercises on the nest. No such luck, so on the way back I decided to take a path along the ridge over a pond and decided to scan the far shore of the pond through the trees and saw something that did not look right on the top of a stump. I knew it was a bird but could not tell what it was through the viewfinder even at 250mm, so I took a few pictures regardless. It was a Kingfisher and I got these shots, this is 100% crop size from the 12MP photo so you can imagine how far away it was. Not the best shots but still a first for me.
Very nice, especially consideration the enlargement!
Shy, skittish little beggars, aren't they? I find the very difficult to photograph. Mine are all at long range.

Nice Woodsman and they are tricky birds to shoot.
A VERY camera-shy bird, that belted kingfisher! I chased them around the marina here for 2 years before I got a capture.
Nice captures Woodman and well done they are not easy to photograph.

Thanks everyone. I have seen this one before but as he quickly flies away as I am walking. Never a chance for a capture. When I was looking through the viewfinder yesterday I saw the belt with white above and below and knew it was not part of the stump but that was all I could make out. I thought of the kingfisher and even though I was up on a ridge and behind trees he was scolding me in a call I had not heard before, not the one I have heard as he flies. I was hoping it was him but did not know till I got home for post.
