I'm going to Denver in Aug. and I have a Canon 80D my lens is 18-135mm but I'm going to buy a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. Will I need both lens for the trip?
Personally I think the 18-135 will be perfect for the Denver area, actually any area. Both lens(es) will be a lot to carry and you would only gain the difference from 135 to 200. Where do you live and what lenses do you use there? Many people ask what lenses to take to different parts of the world but the lenses don't change and much of the world is the same in that cities are cities and mountains are mountains. If I was going to Yellowstone I would take a long lens, 300-500 for wildlife photos. Other than that I think much of Yellowstone can be covered with a medium telephoto lens such as your 18-135.
In Denver the 16th Street Mall is an interesting group of shops. Will you be traveling out of Denver into the mountains, down to Colorado Springs to see the Air Force Academy or maybe Pikes Peak? How about Estes Park or Boulder?
Have a great trip,
Dennis
Unless there is a weight issue, I would take both and you still might find that 18 mm is not wide enough and 200 mm doesn't quite reach but you should be able to get what you want out of those two lenses.
Don't forget to visit some of our 14,000 foot peaks, we have a few.
So what is a good wide lenses to have?
The 18-135 will fill most of your needs. Most of my pics are taken at about 20mm (I have a 15-35mm, 2.8), live in a Denver suburb, own mountain property. Visiting the 16th street area (lot of bums, nasty panhandling youth, crime, and shops you can find anywhere) and Boulder are about the same culture, much like San Francisco. I have never seen the need to go to Boulder (aka: Planet Boulder) for photos unless you want to see the extreme in youth rebellion, much less anything else. Keep going north and west to Estes Park (lots of people in August). There you will need a long lens if you try to get wild life photos. Some fires going on so some haze may be present.

If I had money to burn, which I don't, I would like a 10-24 but don't buy another lens for this trip.
As Bill said, you get most of what you require from the 18-135. Roll with it and enjoy the views.
Thank you for your advice.

Visiting Denver you might want to see their incredible Botanical Gardens.

I just came back from an extensive cross-country trip. I posted some photos here. Believe it or not I had every peace of gear I own with me and THE ONLY lens I used was the 18-135mm STM for my Canon 80D. I think it is a great lens.
If you have time take a little trip further west and ride the Georgetown loop train ride. We really enjoyed it. It is about 1.5 hrs from Denver if I remember correctly.
Take every lens you own. You bought them for a reason, use them.
