Photographic information

I joined this forum a few months ago thinking I would learn more about photography. I am 67 years old and plan on retiring at the end of the year and getting more serious about my hobby. What I was hoping for is more pictures with information about the scene and equipment. Where, time of day, type of camera. lens, filters used, settings, processing, etc. I see very little if any of this. Looking and admiring someone's excellent photograph is nice but not helpful in any sense. It seems like there should be one place where people post their photographs and more information about them to help others.

Does anyone know of another forum where this is done? I love reading the opinions, well most of them, and the other information about products relative to photography, but would just like to see more info about how a particular picture was obtained.
Thanks for you advice.

Actually, the photograph is the most important aspect. There are numerous videos that cover the more informative aspect of best practices. As for posts here in UHH, to me the end result is what I post. For example, there is a lot that went on between the first, original capture, and the final as illustrated with these two images. The first being Straight Out Of Camera.

My basic processing steps are pretty much the same for every image I take. But, the nuances of processing, not mentioned in camera/lens information. vary from photograph to photograph. As a photographer friend of mine stated once, I could give you the same equipment I used for "this" photograph along with a recipe and the results will vary.

Knowing the camera, film, lens, and exposure time of this image will not be that helpful.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes, exposure and how it was determined, processing time and how that was determined, small touches in post processing, are all inclusive and at time spontaneous to what I see on the screen at the time of processing.

Again, for the basics of best practices, I recommend the videos presented by B and H on youtube. Other than that, I'm not familiar with any other site that features narratives along with the photographs displayed. And, as I mentioned, I don't think that information is all that informative. It's more annoying as it appears to be a sales pitch for a particular bit of equipment. It's the image that's important.

If the posted image has a "download" button then it may very well have all the info you want in the EXIF info, you just need the tools to read it, there are several plugins available for various web browsers to display all the stored info.

Do a search on here for EXIF to get started

If all you want is data on a photo, Flickr has most of it with the photo's. Youtube also has tons of videos, I like Yuri Fineart and Anthony Morganti for how-to videos. http://www.photographylife.com also has a ton of information on it.
