I just heard about this lens and it sounds intriguing given its weight and price point. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with it?
I took a few quick shots last evening with it at the local camera shop. I was using my D500. I have not yet downloaded the shots so I can't comment on their IQ. I did like the fact that the lens was small enough and light enough that I could use it hand held. I have been holding out on getting any zoom greater than 300 (I have an 18-300) because they were too big and heavy for me to use. I'm 74 years old and have back problems, so weight is a big factor for me. Currently I don't enlarge anything greater than 8x10 so I'm sure this will be fine in that range.

I just realized that I tested a Tamron 18x400 not a Sigma 100x400. Sorry about that. I saw the 400 and new lens and jumped to a conclusion that was wrong.
Have not used it myself. But the reviews look good, especially when customized using the HUB.
I would imagine that the IQ for the 100-400 would be better than the 18-400 given the narrowr focal range and similar prices. But that's a guess. I'd like to hear how your test pictures came out!

Please keep in mind neither of these lenses have a tripod collar for support - so your results @400 will largely depend your hand holding abilities and shutter speed management !

The lenses weigh between 1.5 and 2.5 lbs. While the OP has yet to say what camera he is using, most camera bodies have a place to attach a tripod or monopod.

Yes, but not nearly as stable or convenient....weight is mostly not a problem - tho for some it could be - stability, AF and composition accuracies are.

But the do not need to be hand held. You can use a tripod or monopod.

Never said you HAD to hand hold - but the sad reality is most people WILL ....and then complain the lens is unsharp or otherwise unacceptable .....
See my post Africa safari photos in Photo Gallery. I used this lens handheld for all my wildlife shots.
