A very nice set; I just love those cute faces. How sad that their little brother had to be euthanized.

I've been thinking I should visit at night to find out what they're up to. It would be fun to see them flying from rafter to rafter. There used to be lots of sparrows nesting up there, too, but I haven't seen many lately. Hmmm.

Thanks for taking a look my friend. I appreciate your comments.

Thanks so much Jane. What's not to like about those faces? They're certainly appealing. I also hope they'll do well.

Wow, those are so darn cute! Love the owls, I would be going back every day. Sorry to hear about the other one. Thanks for sharing these.

I've never seen an owl I didn't like. These seem so sweet.

Thanks for taking time for this post. I appreciate it.

I think you did well with these, Vicki. If I had this opportunity, I think I would try a little fill flash, just to brighten them up a tad. Good results, anyway.

Earl.

I tried a flash but didn't get good results. It may have been a distance thing or I'm not using the settings on the flash correctly (couldn't be user error! LOL).

Thanks Earl. I'm glad you enjoyed these.

Vicki, the series is still a great series not even taking into account the concerns you listed. EXCELLENT.

Barn owls are my favorite. They have the most amazing color and pattern in the feathers on their back and wings. Sadly, birds have hollow bones and they are quite hard to fix when fractured.
I'm glad these little guys are getting ready for release. Great capture!

They don't nest here every year, so I'm always glad when I spot the first little fuzzy heads peeking over the edge of a board. Once they fledge, they don't stick around long. These two may be gone by the time I go back later this morning.

Thanks for taking time for this post Krittermom.

Nice. How fun to watch them!

I've been observing these since I first spotted mom fussing over them when they were tiny. It doesn't take long for them to reach this size.

Thanks for the visit sb.

Very enjoyable series, Vicki!

Before using flash, I'd check with an expert on whether that will stress them. It's one thing to flash a little hummingbird intent on its feeder slurp, another to aim a flash at a nocturnal bird looking right at you.

Sorry, but I get a little cranky when I see people talking about wildlife as if they are just some kind of camera studio prop.

Hi Linda. I agree with you about waking nocturnal animals. I can tell my chinchillas don't appreciate seeing me in the middle of the day - unless I come bearing treats.

When I tried the flash, they were both wide awake and busy shuffling around to get comfortable and do a little preening. There's always a lot of activity below them during the day, so I suspect they've learned to ignore the hustle and bustle of barn activity - dogs, horses, people. I've even seen them "lay down" to sleep. When I checked on them before leaving, they were asleep and looking pretty cozy.

Great set, finally a shot of barn owls in a barn. 😊

Thanks for taking time to respond to this post joehel2. I usually see barn owls in a barn although I saw one in the woods once (when I didn't have a camera).
