The only app I find extremely helpful, but could live without, is Expodev. It isn't free, but definitely worth the money. There is also a good bit of work setting it up, but, again, worth it.

Bob, you are hard to please. I can see that tide table is not very useful in Arizona until California will splash into the Pacific ocean during one of their earthquake

Thanks, I definitely see 6 or 7 that I'll download. I have been using the Norwegian weather app for some time, it is the best out there.

I downloaded the weather ap Yr.no. I know it is a Norwegian ap and that Celsius is used in most of the world and is the wave of the future but I have been using Fahrenheit for so long I can't easily convert Celsius to Fahrenheit in my head, unlike lbs to kg or feet to meters or mph to kph. I do know that 0 C = 32 F, 100 C = 212 F and 20 C = 68 F (from my old darkroom days) but not so easy from there. Does anyone know if the ap can be modified to show Fahrenheit? I looked over the ap but can't find anything.

I am like you re: C. to F. I travel internationally enough though that I had to have some useful rule of thumb conversion. When C. is above 0 degrees, you just need to times the C. temperature by 2 and add 32 to give a pretty close approximation of the temp in F. Reverse the formula to go the other way. It works for me on the fly better than pulling out the smart phone.
