I am going to Iceland for three days in October, with my wife and some friends.
Can I please get any suggestions on some things to do and places to go.
I plan on taking three lenses,50mm,70-300mm,& 10-20 wide angle.
Thanks in advance.

I'm pushed for time right now Sparky, but I was there in Jan. The lenses you have elected to take are exactly the ones I took. You won't regret that decision. Yeah, everyone would like a 500mm Nikkor sometimes! If you are confident, hire a vehicle, preferably 4wd, scour the tourist info and decide what suits you. The weather can be inclement, a decent light waterproof and thermal are essential. You will probably miss puffins, they will have left for the open sea. Not certain of the likelihood of you catching Aurora in Oct, but if you go on an excursion, go on a land rather than sea based one. A tripod and remote (do take the best you can sensibly carry) is of little use on a boat. I hope this is of help and you have a fabulous time, we did.

On a short trip, take something called the Golden circle route. Three basic stops. Geysir, Gullfoss, and pingvellir.

Mr Widen is right, there are organised trips for the circle, I regret not having time to do this. Others said it was a fabulous trip, but too little time at each attraction. This is why I suggested a hire car. The Blue Lagoon is a must do. The museums (I particularly enjoyed the maritime) in Reykjavik are superb.
The natives are pleasant, sociable folk and are helpful. I'd love to have spent more time there.

I did this once on a tour and once in a rental car. Rental car was more relaxed but bus was not bad for the Golden Circle.

In October, don't expect a lot of sun. I was there in June and it was cloudy most of the time. You will probably have to boost your ISO or use a tripod unless you have fast lenses.

I have a couple of buddies who went on an organized tour a couple of years ago. They got all the cliche shots and more and suggested the best advice is to go "anywhere" and shoot "everything". Iceland is just that magical.

I have just returned. My advice is rent a 4*4 as some of the sites were not accessible to 2 wheel drive. Google everywhere you want to go to see what road it is on as we could not travel on F roads with our car. Take a waterproof cover for the camera and lens as waterfalls have a lot of spray. For me a must see is the glacial lagoon and diamond beach but it is a long drive from Reykjavik. The 4+ hour drive (we stayed at a house an hour + out of Reykjavik) turned into 9+hours because of the sights on route so plan carefully. Some restaurants close at 9pm so eat early if away from Reykjavik.

I only took my 24-120 lens as I was with a group of friends, but for wildlife a longer lens is worthwhile.

Nobody has mentioned 'whale watching' boat trips, we did it Jan 12th, it was cold, but they do sell a rum and hot chocolate drink. We only saw a few harbour porpoise and bottle nosed dolphins. No real spectacle, but great for anyone who has never seen them. Hopefully, you will be luckier.
Is this visit part of a larger tour or cruise?
