When you mount a large, heavy lens to any camera is it possible for the large torsional stress at the camera mount ring to cause alingment damage when holding only the camera?

Why would you hold only the camera? Not the stablest approach!

Don't sell. Start using the camera on aperture priority and correct the exposure with the compensation dial. That way every time you turn the camera on the view finder will display the scene near the correct exposure. Also make sure that you have the small histogram in view to check the exposure. I also forgot to mention to set ...live view display to setting effect on. That way you will see the live view exposure...lighter or darker though the finder or LCD. I personal find this more useful than shooting with any SLR that only displays a meter.

There are many great videos on YouTube....that will more than answer any question you would have about the AR7ii camera...I switched from a Nikon D7100 with 5 lenses a few months ago because I wanted the super sharp Zeiss and Sony lenses and the lesser weight than the "brick" A99 Sony or Nikon 750 or 800...they are too big, bulky and heavy - especially when you put the heavy telephoto lenses on these bricks. I have watched most of the Sony gurus on YouTube and their blogs sites and enjoyed the learning experience. I am still learning!!
You will soon benefit as well from the training materials found on the web.

I have held the lens with my left hand and kept my right on the camera, I have been a pro photographer for over 35 years, I know how to hold a camera. My point was that mirror less camera's are small and the lenses I use are large, it creates a balance problem, the camera and lens combo is front heavy, it is not balanced like my DSLR. It has nothing to do with technique. It has to do with the imbalance between the camera and lens.

Sony makes a grip extender - Sony GP-X1EM Grip Extension - the should help with longer lenses and bigger hands. A bit expensive. Might be better off with a vertical grip / battery grip.

With a tiny sensor ( M4/3 ) for example, a good quality lens doesn't have to be very heavy.

Yes, "THAT" tiny sensor happened to get a Nikon Ambassador dump his FF gear for the Olympus setup. Either way, it is an interesting read for all of you UHH "experts". Just proves "again" that the chimp behind the camera is so important.

To the point, small sensors can be fine, but the balance of the system together with lenses etc. makes a huge difference in the user experience.

Bought a new Sony AR7ii 2 mos ago and I'm struggling with learning how to use it. I am coming from a Nikon D7100. I find it awkward and I'm having trouble shooting in Manual mode. I miss the bar light meter as the Sony has only blinking numbers. Any suggestions on how to get up to speed? I am considering selling it. Thanks for any suggestions

I shot Canon and Nikon pro gear for over 40 years before I moved to Sony mirrorless back in 2017. I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9, and currently own Sony A1, A7RIV, A7SIII.

Once you learn the menu and set your custom function buttons it will all be easy, really . Now when i pick up a Nikon or Canon the menus and controls seem foreign, LOL.

That Sony A7RII is a superb camera. The Canon and Nikon fanboys or Sony haters will try to steer you away from Sony, that is to be expected here in UHH, LOL.

But I have used them all in my 50 years pro career and I love my Sony gear as much as I loved my best Nikon and Canon gear.

Here just a few shots I made with my A7RII on a trip to Scotland.

1) Portree, the capital of the Isle of Skye at low tide and with a double rainbow ( a single shot).
2) A wedding couple in Edinburgh is serenaded by a bagpiper.
3) Port town of Oban, Taynuilt, County Argyle
4) Lock Shiel, location of many scenes shot for the Harry Potter movies.
5) Sheep on the side of the road.
6) North Atlantic coastline in the highlands
7) In town of St. Andrews, the birthplace of golf
8) Along the coastal wall in town of St Andrews
9) A Hebrides cattle on the Isle of Skye.

Click on download to see better image quality of each shot.

Also I sometimes used an optional battery grip on my AR7II. No need to spend for the Sony one, the Meike one worked just as well, lasted just as well, and cost much less. I have used both Sony and Meike grips on all my Sony cameras and never had a single battery grip issue or a battery grip failure in years of professional use.

Here it is for the A7RII at Amazon. The same grip fits Sony A7II, A7RII, A7SII: You can get it with or without the nice wireless remote, costs less without the remote.
