Allright, pay attention. Amazon has 4 only - yes that is right Four Pixma Pro 100 Printers with a 50 pack of 13 X 19 paper for $177 - that is 1/2 the normal price of 379. The printer is being sold by Canon so I suspect it is a USA warantee. You must look at this printer and decide for yourself the worth - I have done no more than find it.

Before you buy, know that a set of cartridges will cost $120 for Canon or $60 for LD Ink.

All the foregoing are probably true! I'm still using a Canon PIXM Pro 9000 Mk II and it's very good, if older printer. Although ink is expensive, it's not a 'budget buster'; I seldom have to buy full sets of ink at one time, signally, the inks are about $17 at B&H with no tax if you don't live in NY and no freight if the order is over $50.

I use an Epson WF-4630 that really doesn't print photos all that well. Any suggestions as to a printer that a non-professional photographer can use to get decent 8X10's or 8 1/2X11's?

Check out a Canon, get one that takes separate ink cartridges, mine takes 5 including 2 blacks, my son's takes more, not sure how many, Bob.

I have a friend who is a professional photographer, I ask him about which printer he uses...He doesn't. He said the printers are a waste of time and money. He takes is photos, the ones he selects for printing, to a printing facility.

I use a Canon Pro-10 and absolutely love it! Ink is not cheap but not terribly expensive, either. I have a colleague who uses the Canon Pro-100 (basically the same unit except the 10 uses 10 ink carts that are pigment, and the 100 uses eight carts that are dye based) He loves his, too, but he also refills his own carts - which brings the cost of ink down to about 15% of OEM. (the Canon v. Epson debate is as active as Canon v. Nikon)
Both Canon and Epson now make their own "refillable" ink printers that go up to letter size, but the longevity of the ink once laid down on the print is very short - perhaps 5 to 7 years, and even less if on daily display. I am sure that as technology gets better, so will the longevity of these inks, but for now ...You should check Red River (http://redrivercatalog.com). In addition to selling some really great papers, they give some very informative information that may help you choose a printer that serves your needs.

I have a Canon Pixma PRO-100 that I've used for a couple of years. I print as large as 13X19 all the way down to 4X6 and have been very happy with the results that I get. The only problem that I've had as of late is with print head nozzles becoming clogged. I then have to do regular cleaning and sometimes deep cleaning and that takes a lot of ink but will always get the printer up and running properly again. I print with Red River paper almost exclusively and they offer 11X17 size paper which Canon does not.

This is an unbeatable price. If I didn't already have one I would get it quick. I've had my 100 for a few years and have great luck with it. I use LD ink and I can't tell the difference. Good luck

If you upgrade to a dedicated photo printer, be aware that you should also have your monitor calibrated to render true colors (at least that's what my uninformed interpretation is). And then learn about setting the color profile for the paper you use. And then end up with a slightly different rendition from monitor to paper because one uses backlight and the other reflected light. And there's probably more "ands". Good luck.

B&H still has the Pixma Pro 100 for $379 with a $250 mail in coupon. This promotion is good until July 31, 2017. Great deal, though you will pay through the nose long term with cartridges.

Isn't there an argument for finding a good, local copy-shop that can print out your photos? Here in Grants Pass we have two that seem great. Naturally, I can't recall the prices but I have always thought them reasonable.

Would that be Grants Pass, Oregon? If so I will be traveling from Crescent City, CA to Grants Pass via 198. Is that a good road? I will be pulling my 40 foot fifth wheel and coming from a photo session in the Redwood NP area. Do you think it is a good enough road for my sojourn?

When you write Hwy 198 do you mean 199? 199 runs South-West from Grants Pass via Cave Junction.

Last week we took that Highway when we visited Brookings on the Oregon Coast. To my inexpert eyes it did seem fine for what you have in mind.

We drove 199 right down to where it met 197 to connect with Pacific 101 up to Brookings. Then returned the same route the next day. But you have to appreciate that we were driving a Honda Fit so very different to your set of wheels. Nevertheless, if one can remain patient in terms of the numerous and frequent bends in the road for what seemed like the lower 50% of that route then I would hope it would be fine for you. There are many pullouts (hope that's the correct term - still learning to speak American!) if that helps.

Staying patient with the many 'automorons' that we encountered is another thing altogether! ;-)

I second the advice of those who recommend the Canon Pro-10. I use mine for photo printing only (I use an HP LaserJet for documents) up to 12" x 18" matted and some prints have won ribbons at the Orange County Fair. It's relatively inexpensive but, like all photo printers, the ink is expensive--ten tanks at something under $15 each. But, if you want quality photo printing, it would be very hard to beat.
