I attach a recent photo of a male lion taken by my wife just inside the border to Hwange National Park. In light of the recent and tragic shooting of Xanda, Cecil's son, how might one tell whether this is a picture of Xanda? No collar is evident in the photo, though in other recent photos I have seen of Xanda, one can not see a collar either. Perhaps a collar is hidden at times by fur or the mane? This lion was in a pride with multiple female lions and cubs. Thanks for any help or direction to other photos which might aid in identification.

Please tell your wife I said it's a beautiful shot. The park rangers would be able to identify him by his facial scars. Good luck. Gary
Your wife took a great shot. As gwr stated, rangers may be able to id by scars.
