Alaska's remote Stikine River

If you ever get to Wrangell I would highly recommend to take a jetboat tour up the Stikine river, weather permitting it is one of the most scenic places in Alaska. Wrangell cannot be reached by land, only by sea or air. The only cruise line that stops there is the Norwegian Cruise Line. I took the trip up the river twice but as you can see the weather was lousy. This area has one of the highest yearly rain and snowfall in Alaska. The cabin anchored in the river is a protection from the bears and mosquitoes, so we were told. The waterfall is for sure one of a kind, its like let™s split up and we all join again in the bottom.

Living and traveling around Alaska my entire life, I have to say that there are many places that are THE most scenic. This is a very pretty place. Alaska is soooooo big and diverse, even just covering one region (like southeast) takes a lifetime to discover. I'm glad you came to visit, please return and discover even more of scenic Alaska.

Thank you very much, I am well aware of the beauty of Alaska, I crossed you state many many times, beginning the year it joined the union. If you check my UHH postings of the past you will find that there are over 1000 Images from all over of Alaska I have posted.

I have to admit to much the same reaction to that description. Visitors, even those who visit many times over decades, just cannot imagine the Alaska grandeur seen by a resident who looks at some portion of it every day. And the resident isn't wowed to the use of hyperbole or even superlatives... just because they know full that around the next bend or over the next hill is another absolute breath taker that others would just gush about being the MOST whatever.

We get jaded. And sometimes very very selective.

I think, and that goes for every place not only Alaska, the visiting tourist admires the beauty often more as the resident of that place. I am sure you have Alaskan that never drove the scenic old Denali road, just like you have Californians that never have been to Yosemite.

Been there, done that, ho hum dee dum.

Ever drive the Teller Road? Ever see the North Fork of the Kuskokwim? See the Yukon Flats. Eat walrus flipper in Kwigillingok. Summer, winter, spring and fall. Just a start though because it's the people more than the vista.

You kid yourself about having seen Alaska! I have been trying hard for 50 years and have only tickled it... But most of my travels were in single engine aircraft.
