We all talk about photography and post pictures and ask questions but we rarely show basic items that may be helpful for people starting out in the photo hobby.
I am going out on a limb with this example some may agree others will disagree hopefully the more skillful members will join in with there insight.
This is not about raw vs jpeg please be respectful on my thread thank you Both photos taken in raw photo #1 the histogram was pulled to the left in post processing the second image was as metered and no adjustment. I myself don't think you can do this with a jpeg. Lets ask the pros.

In the photo world the histogram is your best friend.
It's a nice photo but yes on a photo like this where there is not much diffrence in the light and dark tones, also you have no deep shadows or bright highlights, a JPEG would be fine.
The before picture looks to me as if it was taken with a polarizing filter, as compared with the other.
SORRY, I meant that the AFTER pic was made with the filter.
