Please discuss. I belive, when used with caution, it can help an image.

I use Lightroom for the majority of my editing, Photoshop CS4 for anything beyond the basics.

I use Camera RAW 7.1 for 90% of my edit and finish off in Photoshop CS6

I use PhotoShop Elements 9. I believe for those who cant/do not want to purchase full blown PS (expensive), it is the best editor going. And a few additional plugins, always adds to the fun. As far as RAW processing, Elements 9 can do that also. ( most all reasonably current versions of elements, can do RAW)

As for improving your images; its hard to remember any images I have seen, out of any camera, that could not use some tweaking. :)

I run every photo I want to keep through LR4, or something similar. I enjoy the manipulation.

LR 4 ( which in develop module is Camera raw) for 97% of all post processing and either use NIK/Topaz Plug-ins in LR or in PS 6. I use PS 6 for removing objects etc. because content aware is so great

LR is awesome and use it for over 95% of editing, but use PS for cloning, removing things, etc

I recommend you get Kelby and Kloskowski's book on PSE 10 before you start. It could save you months of frustration.

PSE 10 is wonderful software but it is very comprehensive (you can read that as complex) and I found some of the things Adobe does as non-intuitive. There are other books on it that aren't bad as back-ups but the K&K book gets you useful results immediately and thus really ups your learning.

I use Fast Stone Viewer for quick edits and CS4 for more serious work.
