I ordered one of these a little over a month ago through eBay. It was listed for $158 and specified as new. I knew it would be gray market as it is $396 through ABC. But I figured I could buy another and still be ahead if anything went wrong.

I also ordered a square trade warranty for $27. But when I realized eBay will refund for 30 days if there were issues I returned the warranty. No problem there.

After a week or so eBay sent me a note saying that they had taken down the listing but if the product had shipped I should be OK. Although I got an eBay confirmation of the order I never got tracking info. It never came. So I followed up with eBay and they said they are refunding the amount to my PayPal. It isn't there yet but I'm hopeful as they said it might be a couple of days. I don't get why these big outfits are slow on such things but it is common.

So now I've jumped back into the fire and ordered another for $198. There were a number of offers around this amount so I'm hopefull this is a fair grey market offer. I'll post how this one goes for anyone interested.

You do not refunds from Ebay, instead they give you credit and use it the next purchase. Just went through that myself. You can get some good deals on Ebay, just be cautious on what you order.

They say they are sending a refund to PayPal. We'll see.

The give you credit, and use it next order.....if you use a cc or checking acct, it does not go back to it. They give credit to PayPal. They say they can not put it back to the account which was used, which is wrong.......they give credit to make sure you Buy again.....they may be separate from Ebay now, but not really.

You can use money in your PayPal account for anything you buy online...not just on eBay...or you can send it to your checking account. So it is a true refund.

Exactly. You can use those funds to buy someplace else, it is a true refund.

Things are moving on the new order. Got a UPS tracking number. That's further than I got with the first try.

Still not seeing the promised eBay refund, though.

Your reason is sound concerning the price of replacement if you have a problem. Some businesses are more efficient than others, and you might have better luck with your new order.

Nikon just announced this week the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR. I pre-ordered one. You must be referring to the AF-S model?

No...the DX version of the AF-P. It has been around a year or so. There is also a non-VR version.

My main interest is the light weight of the DX one. The new FX one weighs almost the same as my 28-300.

I forgot about the DX one. The announced FX model weighs only 1 1/2 lbs. That's the main reason I pre-ordered it. It is also supposed to be sharper at the 300mm end. I plan to use it as a walking around lens plus birding. Hope I'm not disappointed!
