I presently have a Nikon d5100. I am considering a Nikon d7200 or d7500. I know either one is a good upgrade from my d5100. Has anyone else been making a decision between the d7200 and d7500 and how did you make your final choice? Any in put would be greatly appreciated. I take photos of birds(still and in flight), sports, flowers, and people.

I switched from a 5100 to a 7100 because of it's ability to use older Nikormat AF lenses. Currently looking at upgrading to the 7500.

Why not a D5500? Takes same images as D7200 but has the form factor and (improved touch screen) controls as your D5100. Plus a button for release mode.

Some refurbs available.

I've considered swapping my D5300 for one just to get the touch screen. But I lose the gps...which I don't use.

I wouldn't get the D5600 because it lacks the infrared remote input.

I'm down on the D7xxxs since trying a D7000 from my D5100. Twice the weight and price and I hated the unlighted randomly placed buttons / unreadable green screen control approach. Also the info screen does not work as on the D5xxxs.

I set the function button on my D5xxxs to ISO and can do most of what I need while looking through the viewfinder.

I'd only get a D7xxx if I had a bunch of old lenses needing the camera body focusing motor. Nikon downgraded the D7500 by eliminating the other D7xxx advantage: a second card slot.

Thanks for getting back to me. I think I am leaning toward the D7500 also.

Do you need to upgrade your camera or the lens that you use, often times people post the camera that they use but not the lens, if you have the kit lens that came with your camera, that will be part of yor problem for what you want to photograph. you did not say how long you have been using you camera or what settings you have your camera set at. You can upgrade your camera but if you shoot in full auto it's not going to help, so you need to give more info on your equipment and how you use it. look up the photo posted called Tri-Colored heron. the photo was taken with a Canon T2i but he used a 400mm prime lens, he got a great photo because he knows how to get the most out of his camera and put his money in a great lens.

Thanks for your input. I am going to continue looking at reviews. Not in a great hurry to pull the trigger.

I understand what you are saying. Upgrading my kit lenses has some merit.

If you value having the availability of two cards, go for the 7200; otherwise settle for the 7500.

For low light the D7500 is the one. It also has the latest Nikon processing engine in it. So, if you want the latest greatest stuff Nikon is putting into their camera's, the D7500 is the one.

That's the best way to choose an upgrade, read different reviews about the camera online. When you ask people in a forum such as this, some people will tend to get you to buy what they shoot with. Good luck.
