Hi all. I joined a while back and have been appreciative of all that has been shared. I thought to add a set of shots taken last year out west and to solicit feedback both critical and supportive. My goal is to get better, as I am sure it is with most of us here.
Enjoy the downloads!

We spotted this wild horse as we were leaving Needles. Gave me chills!

This was tucked away in an area of Arches named Sand Beach. Thanks DMeyer for the edit!

Hi Bernie, welcome to UHH. This is a great first post! The wild horse shot is well done. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Enjoy your time here.

Enjoyed your first post. Learning eventually to do your own editing will be fun and VERY instructive about what works and doesn't work as you're out shooting. Yes, it's a learning curve, but you don't need to know everything from the get go. Start by having your friend take you through some simple adjustments, maybe. Good luck!
Welcome to UHH, you have some nice photographs, well done.

Very nice set, downloads really have impact, especially the last one for me.

Thank you for looking. Yes. That was an accident we found on the way to a different area. Ha ha.

Welcome Bernie! Very appealing compositions of stunning scenery and the horse encounter is special.
I notice these were taken in 2016, so I'm wondering if you've had much chance to work more towards using settings that are optimum for each scene.
For example, I see #1 has 1/3000 sec shutter speed. Unless the was a gale blowing, you wouldn't need that fast
#2 has aperture of f/5.6, whereas f/8 or f/11 is more optimal for a vast scene in which you probably wanted maximum depth of field.
When you get a chance, be sure to check out the specialty forums on UHH by clicking on "all sections" below. Each has a home page with guidelines and info about what they do.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work and sharing the joy of the photography journey with you!

Hi Linda. Thanks for your cogent comments. The camera I was using (our son's D800) was relatively new to me and in the case of the first shot, I think I was following the camera's suggestion in full manual with a prime 14mm lens at early morning light. Now whether or not that is a good excuse, I am sticking with it lol. The second image was captured with a 50 prime and I will now take time to look more into apertures and best uses, to increase my knowledge. Thank you very much, and I am also a fan of your work.
