Has anyone used the Canon G series printer ? I am considering it because of its Ink Tank system. My question would be what is the quality of the photo print . I print mostly letter size. Any other comments about the printer would be appreciated. Thank you.

The G series are essentially 4 color printers and for the most part if you plan on using a printer to make photos I'd go to at least 6 ink carts. An alternative to this unit is the Pixma Pro-100. Check at B+H and your real cost is under $100 if you factor in the rebate and the free paper you are getting with the system. This is an 8 cart system that produces excellent photos. If you are worried about the cost of ink check out Precision Colors for replacement inks and refill your own carts. You might want to check out some of Jose Rodriguez on YouTube.

Thank you for your reply. I have the Pixma Pro 100 which I cherish for special photos . I was looking for some thing as an every day photo printer.

I use the 100 for my every day photo printer but I also refill my own cartridges. Refilling is a major cost saving for me and the for the most part I can't tell the difference between Precision Color and OEM inks.

From the experience I've had they hold up well. I keep my photos behind glass or in portfolios and keep them away from strong light weather I'm using OEM or Precision. So far I've seen no major difference. Check out Jose's (the link I sent earlier) YouTube for a more in depth explanation and instructions on how to reload your existing cartridges.

I have the G4200. The Pixma Pro 100 is NOT an alternative to it. The G4200 is an all-in-one printer. The Pro 100 is not. So far Ive only printed a couple shots and the quality is OK but I'm sure it isn't Pro 100 quality. So, if you need the other 3 options and want to save on ink, I'd recommend a G. If high quality prints are most important to you you can find other options out there. For me, if I want a high quality print I go to Costco. I like my G4200 for what it is. I've dealt with Filipino customer service with Epson. Didn't like it. Canon is great customer service and Americans.

Epson also makes a G series printer only model the G3200. One thing I noticed that is a glaring omission is that B+H doesn't carry either model.

Thank you for your reply. I did not expect it to be an alternative to the Canon pro 100. Thinking of everyday printing with exceptional shots going to the pro 100. How long does the G take to make a letter size color print ?

I just timed one. It takes about 2.5 minutes set on HIGH quality. And the quality really isn't that bad. I'd be glad to mail you the shot I just printed.

Thank you again. I will take you at your word so I do not need the photo. May I ask where you purchased it I went to the Canon store and they display it but I did not see the access to buy it. Again thank you for all your efforts on my behalf.

Get it from B+H that's where you will get your best deal.

I bought it from Canon. B&H didn't sell it when I got it. It was a brand new model. I'm not sure if B&H even sells it now. I just found it available here.
