I took another day trip out hunting waterfalls and this time it took me up into West Virginia. I enjoy going up there because it so beautiful and wild in the heart of the mountains.
I started out the day at Twin Falls Resort State Park. There are supposed to be two waterfalls there, hence the name Twin Falls but I did not find the second one and was not in a mood to get soaked through looking for it. It had rained overnight so the underbrush was wet and getting thicker on the trail I was following plus it was acting like it wanted to rain again. I had other places to go so was happy to capture only Black Fork Falls while there. It was a steep climb down an embankment to get to this one as it was.
After leaving Twin Falls I continued to Babcock State Park in Clifftop, WV. There I found the Glade Creek Grist Mill and waterfall which is the second fall in this group.
After finishing up at the mill I made a spur of the moment decision to revisit a waterfall I had seen in April, in the rain. Yesterday the day had cleared from its misty rainy start and seemed like it would be better for capturing Cathedral Falls once again. Unfortunately, a lot of other people were in the area and wanting to do the same. The only problem with all the other people is that they wanted selfies right down in front of the falls and once they finished they either wanted to swim in the pool at the base of the falls or just stand out there in the middle of everything. I waited patiently for most of an hour and was able to get a few pictures without people but it was extremely frustrating.
Please enjoy this set. I have included both fast shutter stop action type of images from the latter two falls but Black Fork was much too dark to be able to shoot fast, and some of the more smoothed out slower shutter images so that hopefully everyone will find one they like. I even added a just for fun "shooting the shooter" image of another photographer I spoke with while I was at Babcock State Park.
Liked them all, especially 7.
Outstanding series. Great composition and exposure. Good job.
Excellent series, and enjoyed the varied shutter speeds! Good decision to do so.

Very fine shooting! My wife, from Clarksburg, loved them.

Very nice series, Andrea! I like them all but I think my favorite is the last one.
All very nice, but #5 especially so - would make for a nice large print!
You show movement in your water and not just milk. Good job

You covered a lot of territory for a great day's work, Andrea! I would love to have been along for Cathedral and Glade Creek--both gorgeous compositions, with my favorite compositions and shutter speeds being #5 and #8.

Thank you Randy for your very kind comments. One of the things I always try to do at waterfalls is to get different speeds so I can decide which looks best but mostly so I can put out something for everyone. It is always an exercise in attempting to get better.
