I am looking for a canon efs 18-135 is stm lens, why is abes of maine so much cheaper than most others, they have a new white box at $279 on a july sale. This is far cheaper than I have found it other places.
You may want to do a search on the reviews form past customers other possibility is a gray market lens canon may not honor the warranty if an offer looks to good to be
true there is a reason for that P.S buyer beware
It is gray market but you can buy a one or two year warranty and still come out ahead.

Usually stores reduce prices to clear out items they couldn't get rid of otherwise.
Grey market is items shipped to the US through foreign countries to avoid the tariffs on Japan. It is the reason that lenses from Japan have x1.5 at the end of the specs.; they are less expensive that way. An 18-55 mm is 35-82.5 mm; their 300 mm lens is 450. Now don't jump me if this is wrong because it is not my fault, I am just repeating what I heard and I have shot the same subj. on the same cam with an 18 and an old 35 mm prime and they are the same. When I heard it I had to find out for myself so...

Is this one of those alternative facts that have become so ubiquitous lately.
Camera manufactures provide cameras and lenses outside of the designated distribution channels to large importers at lower prices with restrictions to protect their normal sales channels. Its sort of like double dipping
Grey market has nothing to do with the crop factor multiplier.
Just google Abe's of Maine and read reviews. It will explain itself
I was told by the person at Canon, when I registered my 18-135 usm from Abe, that any lens purchased in the USA from any dealer, would be covered by the USA warranty.
PS. Don't let Abe upsell you!
What are you smoking there in FLA?

I ordered it, on their 4th of July sale, will see, have ordered from them before, no bad experiences. In fact, that is where this camera came from few years ago.

You forgot about the part where the voice activation responds only to Japanese.

Gray market and less than stellar service from Abe's. Gray market items are not brought into the country by Canon, USA, so they make no profit on them to cover warranty work. Getting service can be a toss-up. It's the same product as sold everywhere else, but it's not covered by Canon, USA.

Wait until you try and sell it and the prospective buyer asks the question - Is this lens gray market? There goes your savings . . . Just sayin'

All depends upon the "dealer" . If the dealer is an approved dealer cannon will honor the warantee. If not they will not.
