Speedlight for Nikon D7200

Need some recommendations. I don't need "top of the line" just a good one that is more versatile than the in camera flash. I have a couple cheap Neewer lights but they eat batteries like crazy and have no external power option. I mainly use these for "fill flash" situations.

I use a Nikon SB700 with my D7200.

I have two Yongnuo 568EX for my Nikon 7200 and they work really well. There is a new model out the YN685N that has a radio receiver built in. Both excellent iTTL units at 1/3rd to 1/5th the price of Nikon flashes.

B+H and Adorama also carry them.

What about battery life on these? My Neewer ones work find but batteries only last for a short period of time. I wind up having to carry a couple extra sets.

I have a Nikon-shooting buddy who raves about the adjustability of light output on his SB700 - he is very pleased with it.

I haven't had a battery problem at all with the Yongnuo speed lights with Eneloop batteries Just did a small wedding in a dark restaurant and only used one set.

Also look at Meike - they do dedicated ttl for most cameras, are conveniently small, double swivel, digital screen, and not expensive.

These links might help. Look at Nissin and Yongnuo.

I would take a good look at the Yongnuo #685. It is Yongnuo's current and best flash for the Nikon. It is priced less than $110. Reviews are good too.

Would you consider the Neewer Li-Ion battery equipped speedlights? I think the TT860 is their Nikon option, but I can't really figure out their model numbering and their website isn't that helpful for figuring it out... The Godox equivalent with be the V860(II)N.

Moving to Li-Ion battery tech should address the battery consumption problem.

Note: I haven't used any of these flashes, though I am considering buying Godox instead of Canon going forwards: The battery change and the costs make it attractive, especially as I no longer solely shoot Canon.

I have four Yongnuos. They work well for me as a portable studio lighting. Unfortunately Yongnuo doesn't have a trigger for Sony cameras only NiCan. But I was very pleased with them when I was shooting Nikon. Used them with softboxes and other light modifiers.

I am now looking at replacing them with Godox which gets good reviews.

I've got a Yongnuo 685 and radio flash controller somewhere in the pipeline between here and B&H . . . Estimated delivery date is Monday. I just couldn't see paying over $300 for the Nikon SB700, when the Yongnuo and radio controller were around $130 . . . And pretty much have all the same features and abilities as the Nikon . . .

I recently bought a Godox TT685n and transmitter for my Nikon.
So far it works great.
Has the built-in radio receiver.

I normally use Nikon's SB 910 and 800, so to be impressed means a lot.

That brings up a good point. I think there is a bigger difference today in battery performance from brand to brand than ever before. I too have had good luck with Eneloop.
