match colors

I have looked at so many tutorials, it's crazy that I can't find explicitly what I want. All I want to do is change the color in the baby's blanket to match a color in the spread out background blanket. Have used the eyedropper tool, have cut out the blanket with the quick selection tool, have used image-adjustments-match color and so on. All to no avail. I KNOW it has to do with using layers, but I'm a PS newbie. Also, the black line on the right hand side of the blanket- I need to know how to get rid of it. Finally, a good tutorial on how to add shadows at the top of the cap would be great. Even Lightroom would be great. I know I'm asking a lot, but the main thing I need help with is matching colors. All Youtube has, it seems, is matching colors between 2 images. I only have the one image to match. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A full size image would be better to work with, (check store original). I can't see the black line you are referring to, so I have ignored it.

Load image into Photoshop
Select the inner blanket and SAVE the selection.
Control + J to put the inner blanket on its own layer
Load the selection onto the new inner blanket layer
Create a new Hue/Saturation layer

My adjustments were Hue + 19, Saturation -31, Lightness -5

I am not really sure what you wanted with the shadow, so I have added one to the top of the image. If this is what you want, or nearly so, I will tell how it was done.

Is this what you were hoping for for a final look . If so , let me know and I will send you a private message on how I did it . It doesn't involve using layers .Tommy

Linary, sorry, I meant a shadow around the top of her hat. But it's ok. I have it fixed now. Thanks!

Tommy, thanks for the help. I figured it out. I do like the idea of noise on the blanket, though.

Ok, I actually wound up doing it a different way last night, but I'd like to look at your way again. I tried it, but when I select the inner blanket and do contr j, and follow the steps, it only saves the blanket to the new background without the baby. How do I just select the blanket and still have the baby there? Thanks

That is the idea, by saving the inner blanket to a new layer all by itself, you can change the colour of the blanket only. When you selected the inner blanket followed by Control + j, the blanket was sent to a new transparent layer. this means with both layers visible, the baby and outer blanket remain untouched, the inner blanket sits on the top.
