It's sad but true what Dan Rather states in the following article. When will someone within the Republican Party step up and say enough is enough.

‘Hypocrisy And Cowardice’: Dan Rather Destroys GOP For Refusing To Cut Ties With Trump

This cowardice may help the GOP hold onto its base, but it's doing great long-term damage to America's political system.

‘Hypocrisy And Cowardice’: Dan Rather Destroys GOP For Refusing To Cut Ties With Trump

Even as Republicans were forced to condemn Donald Trump’s vulgar tweets on Thursday, legendary newsman Dan Rather said there is too much “hypocrisy” and “cowardice” in the GOP for them to completely cut ties with the president.

Rather said the refusal of Republicans to permanently distance themselves from Trump means that the president will continue to be empowered to make the type of “harmful” statements that he did today.

Video:

Rather blasted Republicans:

Where in the Republican Party are there any profiles in courage? There’s a name for what we’ve been talking about here of playing both sides, when a bad tweet, say, “Oh, that’s terrible,” but then go back to supporting the president. … One of the words is “hypocrisy.” Another of the words is “cowardice.” Nobody wants to go that strong, but we need to say things clearly. That’s what we’re seeing, and until we have some profiles in courage within the Republican Party itself, then this situation isn’t likely to change.
As the former news anchor said on Thursday, even though the majority of the country believes the president’s repeatedly unhinged and inappropriate rhetoric is hurting the country – and damaging the way the world sees the United States – it plays well with the minority of the country that strongly supports Trump.

The more Trump spews inflammatory rhetoric, the more enthusiastic and riled up his base becomes, and the Republican Party needs these voters to win elections, particularly during the primary season.

Almost on a daily basis, the president says and does things that would have been condemned by both parties in the past – when there was such a thing as political courage.

In the era of Donald Trump, though, there is no such thing as courage in the Republican Party. This cowardice may help the GOP hold onto its base by not turning off rabid Trump supporters, but it’s doing great long-term damage to America’s political system.

If someone were in a mall common area filled with people and stood on a platform and pissed then it is not the pissing that is all that bad, rather it is an indication of something ... "mentally-unhinged" is a good word for it!

Like it or not, there are "social norms" ... grabbing pussy, bleeding [cunt] and such Trump comments puts all women, except the ugly ones of course, in his classification of all women as whores with out brains. Worse yet, it lowers the dignity of the USA ... If he said like Kennedy "I am a Berliner" the Germans would throw their shoes.

What worries me more, a high percentage of the population think he is great and would vote for him again.

Political courage would be to do what you promised to get elected....to do what your constituents put you into office for. Repealing the ACA for one.

The Republicans in office who fail to do so face the very real risk of being replaced with someone(s) much more like Trump. Those of us who voted for Trump are beyond fed up. I, for one, have no regrets. Is he perfect? No. But neither am I.

Perfectly stated.

And the same worries me. I don't understand how so many find his behavior acceptable or justifiable as the sitting President of the United States. All of Trump's Twitter rants are considered official WH documents and therefore will go into the archives. Boy, am I a proud American to know generations from now will be studying this blubbering idiot.

I understand your frustration and if his replacement for the ACA was what he had promised during his campaign then I don't believe so many Americans would be up in arms currently. But, Republicans in Congress who feel, along will Kellyanne Conway and other republican leaders, that people won't be hurt, mentally or physically, under the new Trumpcare then they obviously have blinders on or just don't care. I personally don't know which is scarier.

Just like in any other job, if you can't perform your duties then your contract should be terminated. Republicans, democrats, or any other person holding an elected position who fails to fulfill their goals or obviously falls back on their promises should be replaced. I know others will disagree, but that's what makes this country great, we all are permitted our own opinions no matter what.

Nobody will be hurt by an act of legislation. And nobody will be denied healthcare. They may need to foot the bill themselves, but that's no more painful than having to pay a mortgage/rent or buy groceries. It's not fun putting my insurance bill ahead of my vacation, but it's what I need to do as a responsible adult.

Otherwise....great post. 👍👍👍

Many, many if not most are sick and tired of the hate and evil that permeates you leftists, liberals, progressives and basically the dregs of civilization since Trump kicked your lying
whore Hillary. Look at the constant attacks on here on a daily basis. Trump has done more positive for this country trying to undo the destruction that Obama unleashed on the country.

If you've noticed, although we may have not agreed on certain aspects of Trump, we are discussing his horrendous Twitter rants. And, the relationship between the GOP's lack of courage to call him out on the absurdity of his latest rants. He is the POTUS and should start resembling a dignified man rather than a 16 year old teenager tweeting with his friends. His rants are now considered historical documents for future generations to reflect upon and they are an embarrassment to our country. Republicans should be speaking out rather than keeping quiet. They are the party of family values, where in any of Mr. Trump's posts do they reflect any values whatsoever? I know I'm probably speaking to a brick wall, but if you have a daughter, sister, or mother would you want anyone speaking to them the way he references women? I hope for your mother's sake you wouldn't, but everyone has their own morals, beliefs, and values and that's your right as it is mine.

Actually the campaign promise was better coverage for more people with lower premiums and lower co-pays and deductibles. Where is the evidence that he has tried to keep that promise?

In case you haven't noticed not everyone is able to afford to buy food or pay rent, let alone a mortgage. Try putting your insurance bill ahead of buying groceries. I really want to call you a pompous ass, but that wouldn't be polite.

Go ahead. You already did.

Nobody will be without care. They weren't before the ACA and they won't be after it....and anyone that claims otherwise is the pompous ass.

You are either a liar or quite naive. I have no way of knowing which.

I'm neither. I think you may be confusing receiving care with owning an insurance policy. They are not the same.
