This is my first time in this section of the Forum. I JUST bought a Nikon 28-300 zoom
and am using it on my D5300. This past weekend my wife and I explored the Land between
the Lakes in western KY, so I got a chance to start playing with the new lens.
Just posting a couple of photos from the visit. Any suggestions would be most helpful!

I suggest you keep that lens on the camera all the time; I love the owl and the cabin is also nicely done.

Very nice photos. Clean and sharp. That wee owl is so beautiful. You captured his eyes for sure.

Be sure and click quote reply so we will know who you are responding to. I fully agree- don't want regrets but oh how I wish I had started with photography seriously in my younger days!

The combination worked nicely it appears. Thanks from coming down to our neck of the woods for a visit. The Land between the Lakes offers an abundance of photographic opportunities from the old working farm to buffalo and other species of wildlife. Hope your visit was fun.

Thanks, James! When my in-laws lived in Florida, we used to zip thru the Trace often, not stopping for long. It was good to now take some time and explore. Only uncoopetative species was the buffalo -- of course we hit them mid-day, and they just stared back from under their shade trees, as if saying 'what do you want? Go away!' All in all a great place for photo enthusiasts!

Both great shots. Thanks. As for c&c, to my eye, I'd clone out that gray semi-circle at below the owl's head on camera left (seems a bit distracting), and either show the top of the cabin's chimney or crop the cabin tighter (it's a bit like shooting a model but cutting off her feet). As others have said, these are lovely shots.

Both are excellent. I wonder if they would have put the owl on a stick if you would have asked?

Thank you! The owl was a bit brain damaged they said. Needed some regularity. Tethered to the glove.

The owl is just marvelous. You really got him right up close and things look very sharp. I really like the separation between him and the background. And the background is just lovely.

Just a word of caution, I think the rules of this section state only one image per post.

The cabin is quite nice. Is it my astigmatism, or is it leaning slightly back? It's very clear. I like the tree coming across in front of it.
