Congratulations! Your suggestion to clean the rollers using the Maintenance software was a good one. Although it was not a complete success, the artifacts became less noticeable and the fainter line of smudge disappeared. I did it twice with some improvement from the first to the second time. I will try once more but if it persists, even in its diminished form, I might have to replace the unit. Interesting that the 'experts' at Canon never thought of this option.

Hello Hudel,
It is good to hear from two of you that the MX922 is a very viable option. Reviews are so difficult to interpret given the fact that some are deliberate misinformation and there is no info on the frequency of the legitimate complaints.
I will look at the MX922 again. Does it have a FAX capability?

Yes, the MX922 is a full four function all in one printer. It also has a duplex automatic document feed and 2 sided printing so you can copy 2 sided documents automatically.
