Very interesting, Brian. The Flying 'F' is certainly a legend.

Great story, I would imagine that flying on a plane like the one your dad flew in during WW 2 is an emotional moment. I can understand the tears in the eyes of the young lady that was on the plane. Have always loved the stories of the people in WW 2 and have watched many documentaries and read a number of books. The sacrifice of these brave men and women will never be forgotten.

I had a very close friend who flew in B-17s as a waist gunner during the war. I never knew much about his experiences until very late in his life when he finally wrote about them. Until then I never really knew that the man I hunted with was truly a hero as was every man who flew bombing missions in those planes. We owe them more than could ever be repaid. May God bless them one and all.

That wasn't my Dad Rich it was Josh Max's Dad. My Dad was in the South African Army which fought with the allies in the East and North African campaigns. I agree with you about all the sacrifices.

Amen to that. There were many unsung heroes out there that were reluctant to share their experiences.

My father also flew B17's during WWII. He flew 30 missions over Germany. I also got to fly on one several years back. Quite an experience.

I know, just said that it would be an emotional moment to on the same plane as your dad (meaning the writer of the story) sorry if I confused you. Growing up in South Africa must have been a little different from the states, although I shouldn't judge since I have no knowledge of the times.
