If someone is wearing white and they are standing in front of something white, what is the technique to show separation of objects? Also could be any matching colors, just used white as an example. At this point I do not have any filters and am just a beginner, but used to using manual mode.
Thank you.

More light on the subject than the background so the bg is darker than your subject

Or vice-versa

That's the easiest way

Well, find a different bg could be easier

If you have an incident exposure meter taking a reading of the light falling on the subject could be your best bet.

Have your subject closer to the camera or have the background further away. By the inverse-square law, light from the light source will fall off so that the background will be darker than the subject. By having the background further away, the BG can be 1-stop darker, 2-stops darker, or whatever. You can actually make a white background look black if it is far enough away. Experiment with a flash and a white towel at different distances, and you'll get it.

Consider using flash with a high shutter speed and separate subject from the background. Remember the inverse square rule for light fall off.

One of the simplest ways I have used for years is to meter the grass where the subject is standing, I learned this when shooting film over 30 years ago and it still works great with digital. Since you shoot in Manual it should be a snap for you. If your subject is in bright light you must meter the grass in the bright light area. It was especially great at weddings when going outdoors for formals.

This sounds like the old conundrum, "How do you photograph a black cat at midnight in a coal bin?"
