Based on what information? Unless I missed something GmaPam has yet to tell us what he/she has for a system. We know it's running Windows 10 and that's about it... They could have a really slow processor and 4 gigs of RAM

PSE is a small program relatively speaking and I use it on a very old 10+ year old computer with minimal memory and a very old processor just fine, Not as fast as my new computer so if one is on a Win 10 machine there should be no problem as even the cheapest are quite capable. That is the information.Really slow processor and 4 gigs is about 10 times better than the old machine I run PSE on as stated above.

I recently bought a Dell xps13 touchscreen with i7 dual core processor, 16gbs of ram and a 512 ss hard drive ($999 at Costco). It runs Lightroom very well. I bought the 13in screen cause I travel a lot and wanted something that would fit in my camera bag. It's just adequate for LR but I will be buying a larger monitor for home use. If size doesn't matter and you don't mind spending more, the 15in screen would be better.

Raw files are huge and a 512 hd will eventually not be enough but it came with a year of free cloud storage plus external hard drives are pretty cheap.

I seriously considered a MacBook pro but I couldn't justify the significant cost differential, older processor and lack of touchscreen.

I need help in deciding on a new laptop or getting a photo editing program for my current laptop. I just use the windows 10 editing now. But it keeps kicking me out after 2-3 photos edited. My computer guy told me I should probably have a Mac Air just for doing photos on. But I'm not sure if he was just trying to get me to buy on or not. Any ideas??

The computer guy might just be full of "Hot" Air. Likely if Windows 10 could be installed on your Laptop it is fine to run PP software. How old is your Computer? RAM? CPU? HDD Size? Likely nothing wrong with the computer you have now. If a bit short on RAM you might be able to easily add a bit or use a less memory hungry Program like PSE 15 or something similar. If you have sufficient RAM get a Ps & Lr CC subscription for about $10/Mo.

Funny, I have Windows 10 Home on my relatively new and powerful Dell Tower and did not even notice Windows had a built-in PP application. What is it called? I have Photoshop CS6 for PP so I never noticed anything other than the Windows Photo Viewer.

I've been hearing that Mac's are taking a down turn since Mr. Jobs died.

I've been using ACDSee on the Free Trial basis. I like it, but I'm so accustomed to PS CC, it's hard to "give up". No sense in having both. I love my Windows PC's. Been using since DOS, then Win 3.0. I'm able to use a Mac, but I really do not like IOS. Would never own one.

Lots of choices of software. I personally use ACDsee Pro. Works very well and has most, if not all, of the features of Photoshop, Bridge, and Lightroom. Non-destructive editing, etc. A lot less money and in some instances faster.
I use a Toshiba Qosmio 17" laptop with 32 GB of RAM, a 500 GB SSD and 1.5 TB of HDD. It's a gaming computer, so it has an NVidia 940i mobile graphics card. It didn't cost as much as half the machine in the MAC family. I have 4 MACs, and 5 PCs. I used to favor MAC, but now they just sit idle.

As previous postings suggest, I'd start with the software desired, then get some "good" advice on which hardware configuration you need to obtain in order to get the results you want.

I've been doing this for 51 years (programming, networking, graphics, photos, etc.) and try to change with the technology when it changes. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, it's PC.

You getting some good info, my suggestion, down load the trial version of Paint Shop Pro, I think it's at X9 now and frequently on sale, if it works you have your answer and can decide if you lik that program, if not well then you can go on from there looking at new laptops, I do like my HP 17" for editing, suggest min I5 and 8 gigs of ram (I have 6 now and will go up on the next upgrade), dedicated video card too,

Just double click on any JPEG and it comes up automatically. I think they just call it Photos.
