Beautiful dog and a nice shot Bob. You never know with animals. My granddaughters would run right up to him. Told them not such a good idea never know what you'll get.
Thank you J-SPEIGHT. This one "looked" friendly enough but I noticed the somewhat heavy jowls on this one that would make for an awsome bite.

Nice shot and good story. Better safe than sorry.
Thanks, Jerry. I usually don't pass up a good dog shot, but I was safely inside my car when I shot this.

That is the question, isn't it? It looks as if he's sizing you up here, thinking about his own answer.
Nice photo.
Thanks, John. I know that dogs have a "sixth sense" then it comes to sizing up people. I just wish I had that capability.

Thank you, Crafter. And as you can see, I lived to tell the tale ..... I must've done something right.

Beautiful animal and I can understand wondering if he was friend or foe. His eyes almost give him away. Love dogs, but it pays to be wary.

Thank you Rowedean. I took it as a good side that the dog was laying down ...... if he wanted to be aggressive, I'm almost sure he would have stood up. But then I didn't get close enough to find out.

When I saw this dog I was reminded of the phrase "Still waters run deep." Seemingly non-threatening and certainly at ease with himself, still he was hyper-alert to any movement I made. I didn't approach any closer than this ..... he was big enough that I didn't want to tangle with him. And yet, I wonder, would I have been met with a wagging tail or bared fangs?

Most dogs wag their tail when they bite.

Almost seems counter-intuitive, doesn't it?

Thanks, Frank. Or is it "With the guts it sometimes gets gory"?

How far were you from him? The fact that he's lying down says he's not too worried, just interested in what you're doing. His ears are up and he looks attentively relaxed, confident. Probably a good guy.

I agree with you SWFeral. I never felt threatened by this dog at all.
