White rhinos are not white, black rhinos are not black. They are all grey. One story is that the white rhino is so called because of the Afrikaans word for wide sounds like the English word white. The white rhino has a very wide mouth adapted to eating grass. The white rhino eats with his mouth barely above the ground moving his head back and forth and walking very slowly forward. He does sound a bit like a lawn mower. The black rhino is smaller and feeds on leaves from low bushes. His mouth and head are much narrower adapted to getting in between branches. There. Now you know more than you ever wanted to know about rhinos.
A good comparison and thank you for the information.

Thank you, Thank You Mr. McVeed; I truly love learning things like that.
I suspect because of your knowledge of animals and photography, you probably used a 28mm lens for this beautiful shots.
Thanks for the info and for the photos.
Thanks for the photos and the information. I had always wondered what the difference was.

Bulele Game Reserve. Part of the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa.

I am very familiar with that area around the Kruger National Park (Balule is a private game preserve that wasn't around during my African days). I hunted elephant on game control operations north of the Park up in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) during the early 50's. My one regret is that I was not interested in photography back in those days. When wildlife is part of your every day life one tends to take it for granted.
It is encouraging to see all the non-hunting safaris that are now operating throughout Africa. My eldest daughter spent several months in Africa last year. Spent a month volunteering with wildlife rescue organizations in Namibia and Botswana then visited most of the notable wildlife areas of Tanzania, Kenya, Zanzibar, Madagascar and gorilla country up in Rwanda/Uganda. She came back with quite a bunch of interesting photos. Made her Dad proud.
Very interesting info. that I'd never heard, and very good shots, mcveed!
