I agree if they ever really got into it the raccoon would win. These two though a lot is show they will yell and scream and posture then 10 minutes later the fox and the kits will be close to the raccoon and they do not seem to care

I am not sure of your housing situation but if it was me I would wait until late Fall; eat the raccoon and then during the winter collect the prime fox pelts.

Wildlife works many things out between themselves. We usually are not around to see these interactions. I work with wildlife. I do agree that a raccoon is quite strong. Pound for pound they have the strength of a bear. But I can not say they are mean. Yes they can kill a dog. But the dog was chasing them and trying to kill them. They are just defending themselves.

And I totally agree with you. Bears, alligators and rabbits are not mean either but they all eat meat and will defend themselves if necessary.

They do work things out. When I take the dog out at night shes initially on the leash in case of skunks or porcupines but she usually ignores the fox and raccoons at least at night. Porcupines scare me with a dog though. So far I have been lucky. Three other dogs along the road have been quilled so far this year. Dogs are not that bright. The fox sure leave the porcupines alone, even the young fox are good about that. Dogs not so much.

Mom fox knows the kits can out run the dog and they take off and she just sits and watches to be sure she knows what the dog is doing when we go out. But the mama raccoon would likely put up a nasty fight if her young are with her and the dog came running.
