Hello Everyone
I am new and wanted to introduce myself. I am a photography newbie/oldie. Yes, confusing. I have been taking photographs for over 20 years but only for personal usage. Kids sports, travel, flowers, etc. I am interested in travel photography and would like to start making a living with it. Anyway, back to the new topic of airline travel. I have read many posts during the last 2 months regarding carry on of camera and lenses. I just got back from a family trip to Costa Rica We traveled there on June 2 and flew back June 12, 2017. No problems what so ever. I had my Canon 7d, 70-200 lense, 17-50 lense, 1 x 4 extender, set of entension tubes, 12 filters, 2 batteries, off camera flash connector, wireless shutter release etc all packed into my flipside 200. No one even asked me to open the bag. It was actually stuffed into a larger backpack with my husband laptop and my flash. Only took laptop out of bag for screening. The officials were more interested in a 10yr olds soccer ball in front of us. They actually deflated the entire ball to make sure nothing was hidden inside. So hopefully it will remain a non issue for us you have our cameras attached to us!
That's good to know. Thanks. I'm leaving Saturday for an expedition to central Costa Rica for a dragonfly survey and had some concerns about the camera and equipment and the TSA.

It was actually very easy. I did pack my tripod in my checked bag. Everything else I had in my carry on. Have a wonderful time on your trip. It is very beautiful in Costa Rica
i thk it is dependent on the airport you leave from.
a friend just flew from istanbul to usa...
security there told him that usa demanded that laptops and large cameras be taken away and stored separately.
what's a large camera? anything bigger than a cel phone.
he said that they took laptops and stored them in a large case to redistribute upon arrival in usa.
the agents were apologetic but it was/ is clearly a us demand.

There are only ten airports worldwide the US restricts laptops FROM. Istanbul Turkey is one.
To Costa Rica and back we flew Delta. The U.S. laptop ban and on other electronic devices larger than cell phones has affected direct flights to the United States by Royal Jordanian Airlines RJAL.AM, Egypt Air, Turkish Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad Airways. (Reuters). There was an announcement in May that the US may include Europe and other areas. Nothing has been confirmed at this time
