Hi Ya All ,
Took this photo yesterday and found Lots of Noise ..
I cant understand why .
ISO 250
Lens at 28 mm
speed at 200
No Flash ..

It was a bit cloudy but still only 2pm ..

this seems to be a constant issue with my Nikon D200 ..
It's absolutely Brilliant with sunny day shots .. But a bit of cloud and it struggles ..

ISO was only 250 so that hardly Pushing it !

Could there be a fault ?
Ive uploaded latest firmware .

Any help appreciated ... But No Snide comments about it Being an Old Camera Please .

Did you use the raw file or is this out of the camera? Did you adjust the image at all?

Was taken in raw originally ..
Only adjustment was a little brightness added and minor crop .
Then save as jpeg .

The D200 is a fine camera, Nikon deliberately engineered it so it won't take pictures of thick racist scum!

I have and use a D200. The maximum ISO for low noise is 400, but if slightly underexposed and then adjusted up in Post Processing, the noise increases in the shadows quite rapidly. I usually shoot at ISO 100, and use lenses fast enough to achieve correct exposure without further PP boosting.

The D200 was once apon a time, the leader of the pack; it is still one of my favourite cameras but noise has always been a problem.

The sample image you have posted appears to have been "brightened" by about one stop and severely cropped. The photo can be improved quite easily in Lightroom by decreasing the exposure by one stop, removing Luminance noise, reducing the whites and increasing the shadows and clarity . When viewed at 1:1, the noise is almost invisible and very little detail is lost. Exposure can then be increased by half a stop without reintroducing the noise.

The finished result is not quite as bright as your posted image, but appears more realistic and with a lot less noise.

Taken yesterday using a Samsung ST66 that was given to me. I don't like the camera, tho' it is tiny and convenient to carry, next weekend, I'll take the trusty D70s. A good day, The fascist English Dunces League were totally outnumbered and humiliated by the good people of London, the scum were more than grateful for police protection.

This is an indoor shot, with a D200 ,ISO 1600, processed in Lightroom, using only LR's white balance, sharpening and noise adjustments.

Good light and exposure, with some carefully applied noise reduction and sharpening, and shoot raw will all help with the noise. From your image it seems that the exposure was biased towards the open gray sky. My guess is that if you had used the spot meter to measure a middle tone, like either of the guys' faces with the light shining on them, you would have gotten a better exposure and less noise on the shadow side.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a D200. I have one and two D100's and a D70sIFR. Picture takers that make fun of those that have one do not know anything about photography because they have the misguided idea that the newer camera will take better pictures. For most picture takers that always have the newest camera is only for bragging rights.

Check you settings and take more pictures and check the results. I like the sign.

Newer Nikon cameras do take better pictures than these.

I LOVE the comment about Nikon's engineering specs. Very funny comment. The signs and the attendees, pathetic and not funny at all.
