First, you need to provide a camera mount. Second, do you want a 1.4X or 2X teleconverter. A Tamron teleconverter should be compatible. And there are other options such as third party teleconverters. Good luck.

I attended a Canon Learning Center short lecture on Canon EOS lenses and flashes yesterday. The presenter was pretty forthright and strongly suggested use of a 1.4x rather than the 2.0x with the Canon 70-200 and 100-400 "L" lenses especially if you're expecting/want AF.

I tried a 3rd party 1.4 teleconverter a year ago and it would not auto focus on any of my lenses including a tamron 70-200 f/2.8 and a tamron 24-70 f/2.8. I sent it back and checked tamrons teleconverters but they only mentioned they were designed for older film lenses.
A few months ago I bought a nikon 1.4 tele which was advertised to only work on certain nikon lenses. It worked fine on my nikon lens but it has a special mount with a special notch so won't even attach to tamrons.
