Not exactly. I've shot monochrome (b&w) film in my Leica M6 35mm camera, but haven't had the resources to try one of Leica's more recent "digital monochrom" cameras. I'm sure it would be interesting and very enjoyable. I understand the build quality is exceptional.

@Julian I love your signature lines - both of them.

If you're on Facebook, check out Moscow amateur photographer Stak Hanovetz who uses a Monochrom.

You'll also see some very unexpected views of Moscow and contemporary Russians.

I used it for one day when I borrowed it from a Leica course in NYC. It yields extraordinary tonality in black and white photos. Being used to using a Nikon D800, I found the Leica a pain to use properly.

Lots of folks on the L forum have used one, you'll get a better response going there.

I borrowed one for 2 days during a workshop. The files produced were strong and low light performance excellent. However I did not like the ergonomics at all. I used it in conjunction with a film M and decided to stick with film for Leica. If I want an all manual experience with full frame digital I use old manual lenses on my Nikon D750 or a manual 28mm Voigtlander pancake lens with electronic contacts (which is very small indeed).

For me, the best ergonomics in an M camera are the M4P, M6, M-A body size/style cameras. I gather the M10 is supposed to be better but I won't look at it given that I like my digital Nikon. I looked at the Monochrom because of the sensor but just really did not like it at all from a use standpoint.

I have owned a Leica monochrome 246 for 6 months now and it is a great camera for sure. great dynamic range , tonality, and high ISO capability with very little noise. I do find only shooting B+W to be limiting. That's why I'm selling the 246. I recently got a Leica m10 and I'm much happier. It's a bit smaller and much more comfortable to hold. It takes beautiful color shots and if you know your way around Lightroom I think you'd be hard pressed to see a difference in your B+W's.

Have been a rangefinder user for more years than I care to admit. Let me know if you're interested in exchanging for a new M-262.
