I snapped these on our recent 6 week driving trip through central Australia.
The first two were quite near each other in the camping ground at Ayer's Rock. I was taken by the differences surrounding the holes.
The third is a meat ant's nest in Blackall, Queensland. They even have a football team called the "Mighty Meat Ants". Sometimes, a farmer will place a dead cow on a meat ant's nest to dispose of it. They will reduce it to bones in less than a month.
