Silverton - ghost town in the outback.
We camped at Silverton, population about 40 not far from Broken Hill, NSW (Australia). Used to be a thriving silver mining town, now very little there. A great pub, artist's studios, a sprinkling of dusty houses. Mad Max 2 was filmed here, along with Pricilla Queen of the Desert and quite a few others.
There's a great bush camping-ground, and the town survives mainly on tourists who make the drive.
Loved it there, great fun exploring, tried to get a few decent photos.
Oatman is in Arizona but not far from Nevada. On historic route 66.
Went there for their famous bed race in February. The burros are still there. The locals said we needed to keep our dog away from them because they kill dogs.
Kill dogs! A swift kick I guess. Oatman was an unexpected town for us, a surprise to see the burrows. That's why Silverton reminded me of Oatman a little. We followed Route 66 through there, and ended up at Lake Havasu City. Wended our way north from there, to Bullshead and the town on the other side of the Colorado River, with all the casinos. Sorry, I'm a bit rusty on names, but all my photos keep the places fresh in my memory.
Arizona. So some of those "Kicks" Bobby Troup was talking about in the song "Route 66" were Burro kicks!

Good set Jude. Had me going for a minute with your title. Thought you were talking about Silverton, Colorado. which is no ghost town.
Very good series Koalaroo.
Much appreciated Jerry, thanks.
