I entered one of my husband's pictures in a contest. We got past the round file stage. Now they want me to submit the picture with these specifications: " We need a jpg/jpeg version that is at least 5x7 inches at 300 dots per inch. Please also remove your watermark". I have no idea on how to do this. I would truly appreciate any help regarding my problem. Thank you, very much.

Make the pixel size at least 1500 x 2100.
That will make it at least 5x7 at 300 ppi. That's pixels per inch, not dots per inch. There is no setting in Photoshop for DPI.

As far as removing the the watermark, w/o seeing it we would be guessing. You don't have an image without it?

What software do you use for editting / PP?

Where would I go to do as you say. I have Lightroom and Photoshop. My husband's copyright is what they want to be removed. It is his name.

In Photoshop you can size by pixels or inches.
I don't have Lightroom as it doesn't play well with a server.

Since you don't want your husband to know, maybe you should post it here and click "Download original." Then members here can make the minor changes.

Thanks. I had not thought of that. Good to know. I think I will try the above-given advice. While I have you here. All has been addressed with the exception of copyright removal. Any insight on how to do that??

Once again; Thank you. You have solved that part of my problem. Care to go a little further?? Any idea how to get the photo back to the original E-Mail?? I think this summer will be spent finding out how to do what so many people have a greater understating of how this comes together.

Some might suggest using the spot healing brush or "content aware" fill.
Without knowing where the name is or the surrounding image looks like, it's hard to say.
Post the image and we won't be guessing as much.

What puzzles me is the fact they want the watermark removed. Watermarks are one of the best ways to protect images from theft so what would stop anyone connected with the competition selling an image as if it were their own? And please don't tell me that everyone running competitions is entirely trustworthy. Whilst by far the majority are good people, there will occasionally be one bad apple who would stoop to theft.
Personally if I was told to remove the watermark I would be extremely wary of doing so.
Can anyone explain if/why I might be mistaken?

You can do the same thing in Elements. The keystrokes are Ctrl+Alt+I on a Windows machine. The screen will likely come up defaulted to "Pixels", change any one of the size dropdowns to "Inches" and the whole thing will convert. Set your desired size and 300 dpi. Make sure that the Resample Size box is checked. That will force the image to your specifications. If you leave it unchecked, the dpi will float up or down based on the size you set and the existing pixel count. By the way, none of this changes the image resolution. It just resizes it and makes it printable at 300 dpi.

When you enter a photo in a contest they do not want any identification on the print so as to influence the judges. Most contests prohibit copyright.
