I am as new at gardening as I am to photography. I saw this bloom yesterday and even though I thought it was a pepper plant, I am going to have to wait and see what it really is.

Looks like a squash blossom and leaves. You'll be able to eat what it produces.

Looks like a squash/gourd flower. Is there a small fruit right behind the blossom? If not it is a male flower and won't give you any squash. The bud in the shot is a male.

Flowers are edible, too. Something of a delicacy.

Looks most like a Squash (Cucurbita) of some sort to me (too). Possibly Spaghetti Squash. Do note "Squash" have two different separate types of flowers on the same plant, both Male and Female. Most flowering plants have Complete Flowers, with both male and female parts together. And then there are the rare plants where you have Male and Female individuals. Plant "sex" differs from animal "sex".

I had to go out and take a look. After the storm we had yesterday, the bloom is sorry looking, but I don't see a small fruit, so it must be a male. I didn't know they had to have mates.

Cucumber. I have trouble recognizing produce without the plastic wrap.
