The second screen capture is from 300Ft. above my house aimed East in one of my first flights from altitude.

It is fun. I am still a newbie as far as Ariel photography is concerned.

I recently got my commercial certification. It took me a while to find out my "sweet spot" for good captures. I found that roughly 50-100' leaves things more recognizable, not to mention, much easer to see where the quad is in the sky.

Was supposed to do the first drone coverage of a wedding, as part of my regular wedding package, but we had wind gusts of 35 mph. I apologized but told them that even though I'm fully insured (commercial use, through PPA), I still wasn't willing to risk injuring any of the guests. I think I was more devastated than they were.

Maybe in my next event, the beginning of July. I can only hope I didn't pay all that premium to never get to actually use it commercially.

I have been approached by a realtor to do real estate photos, but I'm still on the fence. I kind of prefer to do portraits and weddings. Things that don't move aren't really my area of interest.

Have fun, and stay safe.

I have a non-commercial FFA license for the drone and no pilots certification. I might go for that one day, but I don't plan on doing commercial photography. I am surrounded by tall trees, and though I agree that 50-100' does show more detail, I have to get clear of the trees to do that. A friend of mine who is a professional photographer, has a Phantom 4 Pro+. I am jealous of course, but I don't envy him having to deal with Realtors and owners who never seem to agree on what they want. I photographed my last wedding before there were cell phones everywhere. I am happy to stay non-commercial so I can just take what I want for my own pleasure.

It is so much fun to be able to get the vantage point that you could never get from the ground.

The worst part about it is that my PPA liability insurance requires extra premiums for drone coverage (which I understand) but they only cover for commercial events. I had to get a rider on my homeowner's insurance to cover flying for fun.

I'm giving it the 2 years before I need to renew the certification to see if it's worth it. If I'm not making enough money to cover the certification every other year, and the insurance premiums, I'll just go back to flying for fun. (and it is fun)

I don't have liability insurance, and so I am careful not to fly over people or private property. I only fly for fun. A flying camera platform has been on my bucket list for many years, and it is every bit as much fun as I had hoped.

Agreed, it is fun, and a helpful tool. I'm married to a commercial insurance agent, although she isn't MY insurance agent...who doesn't let me do ANYTHING without being insured.

(sorry for the short responses, I'm stuck using my phone for UHH now. Our work "net nanny" considers UHH a "dangerous" website???)

Yeah, these are nice, but when I took mine up for picture taking, all my wife said was, "You need to clean the gutters."

If you are just doing it for fun, you should join the Academy of model Aeronautics (AMA) and fly safely by their rules. As part of your membership you get $2.5M liability coverage. You will also become part of a large hobbyist community and meet some great people. Here's their website: http://www.modelaircraft.org/
