Loading data into EXIF using speech recognition

In a discussion with another group (futurist geeks,) someone made a comment about wanting to be able to search his extensive library of digital photos by asking something like "show all pictures of Emily at the beach with a bucket." Or something similar.

The discussion carried on about natural languages, AI, voice recognition and then picture analysis. Always the systems guy, my contribution was something like, "it would be nice if you could tell your camera some information that it could store in EXIF as you take the picture." Something like "Beach, Emily, toys." The camera already has location, date and time.

I try to load some comments into EXIF data, but it's a pain on a camera. Yes, one can go back later and use any number of apps to add the information after the fact, but that's more work and then you put it off, and ultimately forget about it. I could certainly see this as an app on a Smartphone to deal with the pictures take with said Smartphone. There may be an app for that, but I haven't seen one yet.

On the DSLR or Mirrorless camera, the challenge is greater because the computers in those cameras are dedicated to taking the pictures. processing and storing them. Some even have special CPUs to focus the lens and so on. There really isn't a multipurpose CPU on those things, that I know about. But even my lowly D5200 has a microphone, just not used much.

I'm sure in time we will get there, just don't know when.

As a step in that direction, I could see an app that downloads the picture from the camera right after it's stored and allows you to add the data as the file gets pulled from the camera.

This process is a facet of 'workflow'. Yes, voice recognition would be nice, and we likely have the technology to make it work now, but not when I'm out shooting.

Lightroom populates much of my EXIF data automatically during import. Even keywords, although I typically spend time during my workflow to add several more.

Yeah, as a systems guy, I'm all about workflow. However, at this point, I'm more concerned about data capture at the time of the picture taking. I'm sure this has never happened to anyone else but me, but sometimes I look at a picture I took and I haven't the foggiest recollection as to WHY I took the picture and who that stranger is in the picture, or what the occasion was. Being a sexagenarian has brought on the issue and I understand it doesn't get any better when I graduate to septuagenarian in a few years.

The real problem with being a sexagenarian is the name is misleading. Sex has nothing to do with anything at that age...

The mic on the 5200 , had me thinking for a bit, Of course its to record video. but it would be cool if I could add EXIF data .
Maybe some smart Nikon Or Canon tech will read this and add it as a new feature to future cameras.

It would be more than just a feature, voice recognition requires lots of processing power and storage, something these cameras do not have a lot of. Apps like Siri, Alexa, Cortana and Ok Google send the commands over the network to their servers and that's where they get processed and sent back to the app.

One way would be to capture the voice information and store it with the picture and then when the file is uploaded to a PC or tablet, or sent to the cloud for storage, the voice recording could be processed by a voice recognition engine and have the keywords recorded as text within the EXIF of the file.
